Simple Patchwork Pillows - use up those scraps

Are you ready to sew pillows?!?!? I LOVE sewing pillows with the left over scraps from my larger quilting projects. Plus you can never have too many pillows!!!

We just finished our Cozy Up Mystery Beginner Quilt last week so you probably have some adorable Cozy Up fabric scraps left over. Let's use them up and sew these easy beginner pillows!!!

I was able to make (2) 20" x 20" pillows with my left over Cozy Up fabrics --- since I wanted to make (3) I used some 2.5" Moda mini charm squares to make the final one.

Supplies:
Fabric Scraps...yay!!!
20" x 20" Pillow Form
Pillow Patterns available here (free)

Pillow 1: Simple Patchwork Pillow 20" x 20"

Pillow 2: Double Simple Patchwork Pillow 20" x 20"

Since I used the Moda Buffalo Check wide back fabric for my Cozy Up Quilt - I was able to use the left over pieces for all 3 pillows...yay!

I hope you have fun sewing these Beginner Scrap busting pillows! I will be sharing a tutorial for making a zippered pillow back next week. I love using zippered backings so I can change my pillows for the seasons or when they get dirty--I have 3 kiddos ;).

We are on Week 7 of the Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along! This week we are sewing the Neapolitan and Peaches 'N Cream blocks! The little Neapolitan blocks are so cute...just like little bows! When I was sewing the Neapolitan blocks - mine were rectangles until I found the extra background pieces that I forgot to sew to the top and bottom of the block...oops!

I love selecting which fabrics from my Wild Bouquet 10" Stacker each week! I'm loving this fabric so much!

Welcome to the Vintage Christmas Sew Along!!! Today I'm sharing the New Puppy Block from Lori Holt's newest book, Vintage Christmas

Vintage Christmas book is amazing -- all 207 of pages of it! I love how clearly Lori writes her patterns (go grab your Alphabitties). Plus she gives 2 sizes  for each of the 42 blocks (6" and 12")! All the blocks are traditionally pieced too.

Ready to sew the New Puppy Mini Quilt 20.5" x 20.5"
 Supplies

  • Vintage Christmas Book by Lori Holt

  • Riley Blake Confetti Cotton - Gray
  • Cosmo Embroidery Thread
  • (2) Buttons

  • Fun Extras -

    Mini Quilt directions-

    Hearthside Holiday Layered Cake Quilt

I just fell in love with Deb Strain's Hearthside Holiday fabric! The colors and prints (deer, snowflakes, plaid, and text) are perfect for Christmas! You may have noticed that Christmas fabrics are my favorite and I love sewing with them! Plus the Layered Cake Quilt Pattern really shows off the gorgeous prints!

I used my Layered Cake Quilt pattern (on sale here for $5) and it was perfect! My Hearthside Holiday Quilt finishes at 54.5" x 74.5" - just slightly longer as I wanted more of the plaid on the panel to show.

I did need to adjust the panel part of the pattern a bit- but it works! One Hearthside Holiday panel comes with (2) rows of 4 blocks. Cut out (1) row 4 blocks (11.5" x WOF)  and then (1) extra block from the second row- allow extra plaid for pattern matching.  Can you tell the far deer on the right is the block I added??? Yay for pattern matching! You will have 3 blocks left over from the panel for a table runner or pillows!

    Supplies:

I'm loving the Layered Cake Quilt Pattern as it such a fun and quick pattern to sew! Plus you will use every 10" square...yay for no wasted fabric! Don't let that middle panel scare you- it is easy to change it up! You could also use 1&2/3 yard of your favorite print for the panel piece and use the left over for the binding!  Click here to see Layered Cake Quilt with Seaside Fabric.

So grab the Layered Cake Quilt Pattern and Hearthside Layer Cake plus Panel (or favorite fabric) and you can sew this quilt up in plenty of time before Christmas!

Cozy Up Mystery Quilt Along - The REVEAL and PRIZES

We have reached my favorite week of  Fort Worth Fabric Studio - Cozy Up Beginner Mystery Quilt Along - the REVEAL! I'm so excited to share the assembly instructions today at Fort Worth Fabric Studio

Let's assemble our Cozy Up Mystery Quilt!
    Tips:
    • Press block seams toward opposite directions for each row. Example Row 1- press sewn together block seams to the left and Row 2 - press sewn together block seams to the left  - this will allow the seams to nest for easier matching!
    • I recommend using pins or Wonder Clips to when sewing the quilt rows together to help the seams match. Don't worry - you only have 3 seams per row to match!
    • When sewing Churn Dash blocks together, use a scant 1/4” seam allowance . This will mean you are sewing about a thread width away from point intersections, which allows the points to be fully exposed on the quilt front.

Be sure to share your finished Cozy Up Mystery Quilt top for PRIZES! #cozyupmysteryquilt

    How to enter:
    • Share your Cozy Up Beginner Mystery Quilt on Instagram using #cozyupmysteryquilt
    • Fort Worth Fabric Studio will randomly draw 3 winners on November 26 at 8 pm CST
    Prizes (one prize per winner):
    • From the fabulous @orchidowlquilts . Free edge to edge longarm quilting for your Cozy Up quilt (shipping, batting, and backing not included)
    • $25 gift certificate to FWFS
    • Large bundle of Christmas scraps from FWFS, many from Friday Bundles!

If you are looking for backing - I used Moda Buffalo check wide back and LOVE it! Plus I had left over to  back my bonus projects - pillows!

Here's a peek at the pillows I made with my Cozy Up Scraps - this fabric is too cute so I had to use it all! A free pattern - will be available soon. I was able to make (2) 20" pillows and then added some extra scraps I had at home to make the third 20" pillow.

I will also be sharing a machine binding tutorial too!

Don't forget - Jodie at Fort Worth Fabric Studio has created "how to" videos too! Videos are available at the Fort Worth Fabric Studio You-Tube Channel here.
