Mix Match Quilt - So Ruby edition with Fort Worth Fabric Studio

Have you seen the new So Ruby Collection by Carina Gardner with Riley Blake Designs?!?!?! It is gorgeous!!! Jodie at Fort Worth Fabric Studio and I knew it would be perfect for my Mix Match Quilt Pattern! So of course- KITS are available!!!

We love the Mix Match Pattern for the So Ruby fabrics as the blocks are larger so the fabric really shines! It is just too pretty to cut into tiny little squares ;) --- though I am making a pillow with my left over scraps because every fabric scrap must be sewed!

Cozy Up Mystery Quilt Start TODAY!

Welcome to the start of the Fort Worth Fabric Studio - Cozy Up Beginner Mystery Quilt Along! Quilting is the best way to begin a Monday! It's been so hard not sharing sneaks/peeks of this project, but don't worry - I think you will love it! Best of all - you will have a holiday quilt to Cozy Up in just a few weeks! Let's begin!

Week 1

Cutting Instructions - here at Fort Worth Fabric Studio

  • We are cutting the ENTIRE Cozy Up Quilt. It will be nice to cut your fabric at once so each week we get to do the fun part - sewing!
  • Remember to measure twice THEN cut.
  • Iron your fabric before cutting. Flat fabric is much easier to cut - get those wrinkles out!
  • The Snowman print and the Text print are directional, but don't worry - the instructions explain it!
  • Save your left over fabric pieces as I will be sharing bonus projects for these scraps. This fabric is just too cute - we must use every piece :).

  • Download your Block 1 piecing instructions.
  • Use your iron. Pressing your blocks makes the sewing much more accurate (and pretty).
  • Enjoy looking at your first 8 blocks for your Cozy Up Quilt! You are quilting!!! Yay!!!

Don't forget - Jodie at Fort Worth Fabric Studio has created "how to" videos too! They are available at the Fort Worth Fabric Studio You-Tube Channel here. This will be Jodie's THIRD quilt so it will be so fun to watch her quilt along with us! Fun fact- She had her son cut out the quilt pieces for her! Yay for helpful kids!

There are a few Cozy Up Quilts left. So get yours now - here! The Cozy Up Quilt Kit contains all the fabric for quilt top (lap size 48.5" x 60.5") plus pre-made binding! I highly suggest the matching Moda 108" wide back backing set- here - I love not having to piece my quilt backing.

I'm so excited to see everyone's Cozy Up Quilt progress. Be sure to tag both @fwfabricstudio and me @mellierc plus use hashtags #CozyUpMysteryQuilt and #sewingwithfwfabricstudio

I can't wait for next Monday for Week 2! PS- It's so weird to be excited for Monday ;).

Away in the Manager - Vintage Christmas Sew Along

Welcome to the Vintage Christmas Sew Along!!! I'm so excited that I was able to choose my favorite block- Away in the Manager from Lori's newest book- Vintage Christmas for the Sew Along!!!

I wanted to use my 6" block to decorate my home so instead of turning it into a pillow or mini quilt --- I chose to place it in an embroidery hoop and attach a ribbon for hanging. I just love it!!! It is such the sweetest block!!! I love how my 4 year old knew right away it was baby Jesus!

Vintage Christmas book is amazing -- all 207 of pages of it! I love how clearly Lori writes her patterns (go grab your Alphabitties). Plus she gives 2 sizes  for each of the 42 blocks (6" and 12")! All the blocks are traditionally pieced too.

Ready to start sewing - Away in the Manger

How to:  Away in the Manger 6" Block into an embroidery hoop wall hanging.

2. Cut (2) 3" x 6.5" background fabric strips and sew to sides of block.
3. Cut (2) 3" x 11.5" background fabrics strips and sew to top/bottom of block.
4. Center block in 9" embroidery hoop.
5. Finish hoop backing with preferred method. I used this one by Lark Rising.
6. Add a ribbon for hanging.

I'm ready to start decorating for Christmas! I love having Christmas decorations that are Christ centered so my Away in the Manger Embroidery Hoop wall hanging is perfect! Plus Away in the Manger is one of my most favorite Christmas songs!

If you want to sew the entire Vintage Christmas Sampler Quilt - details are here on the Fat Quarter Shop Blog (including the blogger list for each block).

Layered Cake Quilt (NEW PATTERN) with Seaside Fabric

I ordered the cutest Seaside Layer Cake and border print by Tasha Noel...it's adorable fabric!  I wanted to design and sew a quilt that was beginner friendly and showed off the adorable prints! Plus 10"squares are my favorite pre-cut!!! So I designed Layered Cake Quilt (available here)!

Just look at the lovely prints....

I finished my Layered Cake quilt just in time before our trip to the Ocean Seaside! It was the perfect spot to take quilt photos...except the wind ;). So here is a peek of the backing!

Plus a closer look because I had to splurge on the matching print for the backing. It is too perfect!

The Layered Cake Quilt is a fun pattern to sew that just needs (1) Layer Cake - all 42 squares plus a border print or your favorite print in yardage. The Layered Cake Quilt finishes at 54.5" x 72.5"....perfect for a large lap size! The layered cake blocks are staggered - so NO seams to match!!!

Supplies-

I just love this quilt! It reminds us of our beach vacation!!!
