Prim & Proper Sew Along - Week 2

 

Hi Quilty Friends! Today we are starting to sew the Small Leaves Block for the Prim & Proper Sew Along with Fat Quarter Shop! The Small Leaves Block is quick and fun to sew ... so it's a great week to catch up on Prim Flower blocks if you aren't finished yet. 

I am SO EXCITED to make this quilt and I LOVE all things designed by Lori Holt! Be sure to keep reading for tips on making your block - including bonus blocks !

I'm making my Prim & Proper Quilt with mixed Lori Holt collections as I couldn't pick just one! Yay for scrappy sewing with Lori Holt Fabrics...here's a peek of the fabrics I will be using!

I love how all of Lori Holt's collections mix so well together plus Riley Blake Designs prints fabulous designs on quality fabric! Check out all of Lori Holt's fabrics available at Fat Quarter Shop (HERE).

Sewing Tips:

1. Use Alphabitties. They are so helpful in keeping your fabrics organized!

2. Use pins so your points match up. Magic Pins are my favorite!

3. Save the C / D / A trimmed off triangles. Sew the triangles together and make scrappy half square triangles. I trimmed mine to 3.5" and added them to my Lori Holt scrap bin! I used a Bloc-loc ruler for trimming for perfect half-square triangles!

Fast & Easy No Sew Homemade Hexi Ornaments

 

Hi AccuQuilt Friends! Today I'm sharing a NO SEW Hexagon Ornament tutorial using the brand new AccuQuilt GO! Qube English Paper Piecing 1" Finished Sides  on the AccuQuilt Blog HERE.!!!

The holiday season can be busy so a quick Christmas project is perfect!!! PLUS this project is great to make with kids! My daughter loves to cut out the shapes and I iron!

Let's start making NO SEW Hexagon Ornaments!

Supplies:

• AccuQuilt GO! me, GO!, or GO! Big Fabric Cutter
• AccuQuilt GO! Qube English Paper Piecing 1" Finished Sides (Die 55826)
• (16) 5" squares - I used Holliberry designed by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics
• 1 yard Fusible Adhesive - I used Heat N Bond Ultra Hold
• (24) 6" strings (for hanging ornaments)

It was hard to decide which clutch pattern I wanted to make ... but the Sew Beary Lovely Clutch was the winner. Also my 6yo really wants it ;). 

I highly recommend watching the Sewers Club instructional video BEFORE starting - it is full of helpful sewing tips so your project will be easy to make and look amazing!

I decided to quilt my bear face with diagonal diamonds - love it!

The heart zipper pull on the zipper is such the CUTEST detail - love it!!! I'm pretty sure I need lots of these zippers as I want to add them to all of my projects! 

I also really love the added the wrist strap - so handy!

Pure Delight Quilt and Drawstring Bags

Hello Friends! I'm so excited to share my Pure Delight Quilt plus matching drawstring bags!! I absolutely LOVE the positivity with the Pure Delight Fabric collection designed by Melanie Collette for Riley Blake Designs! The colors are so happy AND there are TWO amazing panels with positive sentiments!

Yes - I totally used the Pure Delight Panel for the center of my quilt! It was so much easier than trying to match all those points :) ! The quality of Riley Blake Designs panels are FABULOUS! Don't worry - I will share my cutting measurements for the quilt!

The Pure Delight Collection also comes with a panel that makes (2) drawstring bags PLUS (3) banners! Keep on reading for more details and supplies!

Now that shared a peek of my Pure Delight Projects ... let's chat in more detail about each project!!!

Pure Delight Quilt 47.5" x 58"

Supplies:

• (1) Pure Delight Quilt Panel designed by Melanie Collette for Riley Blake Designs
• 1/2 yard for inner border - Pure Delight designed by Melanie Collette for Riley Blake Designs
• (4) 1/2 yard cuts for outer border - Pure Delight designed by Melanie Collette for Riley Blake Designs
• 1/4 yard for outer border corners - Pure Delight designed by Melanie Collette for Riley Blake Designs
• 1/2 yard for binding - Pure Delight designed by Melanie Collette for Riley Blake Designs
• 3.5 yards backing - Blossom Navy on White designed by Christopher Thompson for Riley Blake Designs

Cutting and Assembly Instructions -

1/4" seam allowance

• Pure Delight Panel - Cut 1/4" away from printed block edge. DON'T cut directly on edge of printed panel or when you add your borders - the star points will disappear :(. My cut Pure Delight Panel measures 33" x 43.5".
• Inner Border Fabric - Cut (5) 2.5" x WOF strips. Sew together. Then cut (2) 2.5" x 37"* strips: Top & Bottom Inner Border AND (2) 2.5" x 43.5"* strips: Right and Left Inner Border. Sew right and left inner border strips to panel. Sew top and bottom inner border strips to panel.
• Outer Border Corner Fabric - Cut (4) 5.5" x 5.5" squares
• Outer Border Fabric - Right and Left Outer Border - Cut (2) 5.5" x WOF strips. Sew together. Then cut (2) 5.5" x 47.5"* strips. Sew right and left outer border strips to quilt. For Top and Bottom Outer Border - Cut (1) 5.5" x 37"* strip. Sew (1) 5.5" x 5.5" outer border corner fabric square to each end. Top and Bottom Outer Border measure 5.5" x 47.5"* Sew top and bottom outer borders to quilt.
• Binding Fabric - Cut (6) 2.5" x WOF
• Quilt and bind as desired

* NOTE - Be sure to measure your quilt BEFORE cutting border lengths as your seam allowance may vary. You may need to adjust border length to match your quilt.

Ready to chat about the super cute Pure Delight drawstring bags! My daughter has already taken one... luckily I will share :).

Supplies for (1) Drawstring Bag:

• (1) Pure Delight Banners and Drawstring Bags Panel - Pure Delight Designed by Melanie Collette for Riley Blake Designs
• 1/2 yard for drawstring bag lining and bias tape - Pure Delight Designed by Melanie Collette for Riley Blake Designs
• OPTIONAL - Clover Bias Tape Maker 25 (blue one) 1" 

Instructions are printed directly on the panel - so it's super easy! I decided to make 0.5" double folded bias tape for my drawstring bags... love it! The Clover Bias Tape Maker makes it easy and less burned fingers ;). Note - I cut the fabric 2" wide and then folded it to make 0.5" width fabric drawstrings.

I LOVED making these sweet drawstring bags and want to make so many more! I can't believe this was my first time making them!

I really loved sewing these Pure Delight Projects! They fabric is so uplifting and makes me happy!!! I think that sewing should always do that! Now if my kids are being grumpy - I can have them cuddle in this quilt and hopefully turn their frown will turn upside down and "Make Today Awesome!"
