Heartfelt Quilt and Stitch Along - Release 1: Beloved

I'll chat about quilting first ...so if you are only a stitcher - just scroll a bit for the stitching information.

It is time for the first release for the Heartfelt Quilt and Stitch Along!!! Yay! We are making five of the Beloved Blocks. I love the hearts nestled in the star block!
PS- $40,000 has already been raised for Make-A-Wish, which is amazing!  Fat Quarter Shop is releasing a bonus Heartfelt Table Runner pattern to celebrate (here) !!!!

As I'm making my Heartfelt Quilt with One Fine Day fabric, I was able to mix and match fabrics until I found my favorite combos! I'm totally smitten with this fabric!

The tiny little nine patch block is from some extra squares I accidentally cut ... oops. But this cute little oops is going to make the cutest little pincushion!

Heartfelt Quilt Along Details:
It is time for the 9th Annual Charity Quilt with Fat Quarter Shop! The way the fundraiser works is that Fat Quarter Shop offers the Heartfelt patterns as FREE downloads during the event for a suggested donation of $5 each to our Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas campaign. Or feel free to make a larger, one-time donation of $50. No amount is too small and every bit counts. From February to September, we will publish a new pattern here on the blog on the 1st Friday of each month.

Don't worry if the Heartfelt Quilt Kit has sold out - you can choose any fabric to make your Heartfelt Quilt ! I'm choosing the bright and happy - One Fine Day collection designed by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabric for my Heartfelt Quilt!

Fat Quarter Shop Cross Stitch

Heartfelt Stitch Along Details

It is time for the first release for the Heartfelt Stitch Along!!! We will be stitching the outer border! Borders always make me a bit nervous because if I miscount - I will have to unpick and fix it - ick! So I decided to just stitch one border column first. Then when the second release is available, I will begin to stitch the hearts and make sure I didn't make a counting oops on the border.

I wasn't quite sure if the Tabby floss would have enough contrast with the white fabric, but I think it will be great as I didn't want it too dark.

Heartfelt Stitch Along Details
The way the fundraiser works is that Fat Quarter Shops offers the Heartfelt patterns as FREE downloads during the event for a suggested donation of $20 for the whole cross stitch pattern to our Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas campaign. No amount is too small and every bit counts. From February to August, Fat Quarter Shop will publish a new pattern here on the blog on the first Friday of each month.

Of course you can choose your own fabric and floss to make your Heartfelt Cross Stitch yours! I want mine to coordinate with my quilt so I'm using a different fabric and floss.

Fabric and floss that I will be stitching with ....

I hope you join in for the Heartfelt Quilt Along OR Stitch Along OR Both! They are beautiful projects and your donations will bless the children and their families with Make-A-Wish.

I will be back on March 4th with the second release!

Sunrise Quilt - Enchanted Meadows

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #ABitofScrapStuffPattern #SunriseQuilt #RileyBlakeDesigns #Quilt

Hi Quilty Friends! I'm excited to share my Sunrise Quilt with the gorgeous Enchanted Meadow Fabric Collection designed by Beverly McCullough for Riley Blake Designs. Once I saw all the cute woodland animals - I knew this collection would need a quilt pattern with large blocks so the fabric would shine. My Sunrise Quilt Pattern is the perfect match!

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #ABitofScrapStuffPattern #SunriseQuilt #RileyBlakeDesigns #Quilt

I'm often asked how I achieve matching points in my quilts. My quilting secret is the Riley Blake Designs Quilter's or Tailor's Clapper for pressing plus I use my AccuQuilt GO! dies for cutting perfect pieces.

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #ABitofScrapStuffPattern #SunriseQuilt #RileyBlakeDesigns #Quilt

Sunrise Quilt pattern is written for traditional rotary cutting and sewing - but I also share the AccuQuilt Die Sizes if you are an AccuQuilt fan too ;).

I loved selecting two coordinating Enchanted Meadow prints for each Sunrise Quilt block. My favorite print is the Enchanted Meadows Forest Animals print...I absolutely love the cute critters. Plus I love that I can fussy cut the center of the Sunrise Blocks, which is perfect for focusing your favorite bits of fabric. Fussy Cutting Tips - on my blog here.

I chose to add a border to my Sunrise Quilt because I love love love the Enchanted Meadow Forest Animal print ... the deer, fox, rabbit, hedgehog, and florals are just too cute! Adding a border to your quilt is the perfect way to show your favorite print AND make your quilt larger for cuddling with!

OPTIONAL Outer Border Instructions
The original Sunrise Quilt doesn't have a border, but adding an outer border is super easy!
  • Choose 1.5 yards of your favorite print - mine is:
  • Cut (8) 5.5" x WOF strips
  • Sew strips together to form one very long narrow strip
  • Measure quilt length. Example Quilt Length of 66.5"*. Cut (2) outer border strips 5.5" x 66.5"*. Sew (1) outer border strip to right side of quilt and (1) outer border strip to left side of quilt.
  • Measure quilt width. Example Quilt Width of 77"*. Cut (2) outer border strips 5.5" x 77"*. Sew (1) outer border stripe to top of quilt and (1) outer border strip to bottom of quilt.
* Cut your border strips to the measured length and width of your quilt.

Binding Cutting Instructions if adding Border:
  • Cut (8) 2.5" x WOF of binding fabric.

January Sewers Club Box

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #SewersClub

Today I'm sharing my adaptation of the  Mini Ruffle Makeup Bag using the Sewers Club January Box! The Mini Ruffle Makeup Bag is a bonus pattern from a previous Sewers Club Box and is also available on the Sewers Club website if you missed that box.  I love this pattern so much that I wanted to make it again!

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #SewersClub

The Sewers Club January project is the Wine Bottle Bag with Gift Card Pocket, which is a great gift.  As my family doesn't drink wine, I chose to use the fabulous fabric to make the Mini Ruffle Makeup Bag a bit bigger. I'll share more about my alternate project - keep on reading ;)

Let's chat about the January Sewers Club Box -

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #SewersClub

All of the supplies you need to make the Wine Bottle Bag with Gift Card Pocket are included in the Sewers Club Box - including an awesome instructional video! I highly recommend watching the video before starting your project as it is full of helpful tips! I like to watch the video and sew along - it's easy to pause and rewind/rewatch a step if needed!

Let's take a look at the Sewers Club - January Box Contents:

  • (2) Fat Quarters of coordinating fabric by  Northcott (Canyon Creek and Shadow Crackle.
  • Fusible Fleece
  • Mini Stash 'n Store
  • Silver Handmade Tag
  • Gutterman Sew-All Thread

More about the Mini Ruffle Makeup Bag -

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #SewersClub

The smaller Mini Ruffle Makeup Bag in the Summers End fabric (purple) is the actual size for the pattern, but after I made that bag... I thought I would it would be fun to make the bag larger as I had 2 fat quarters from the January box. I cut the pattern pieces larger and it all worked out - phew!

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #SewersClub

All of the supplies were in the Sewers Club - January Box except I added a zipper and Mini Ruffle Makeup Bag Pattern from my stash.  I love this bag!!!
