Flea Market Quilt & Stitch Along

Hi Quilting and Stitching Friends! Months two and three of the Flea Market Quilt and Stitch Along with Fat Quarter Shop is the .... Churn Dash!

I'll chat about quilting first ...so if you are only a cross stitcher - just scroll a bit for the stitching information.

Churn Dash is one of my all time favorite blocks! I love sewing them!

These little 4" Churn Dash blocks are super adorable!!!! I had sew much fun choosing my favorite Flea Market and Stitch fabrics designed by Lori Holt.

I was just so excited that I added my borders around the Flea Market block and added all the cute little churn dash blocks! I'm loving the center of my Flea Market Quilt!!! The next few months - I will be sewing the basket blocks that border the quilt center!

I'm making my Flea Market Quilt as designed in the Flea Market book, but with fabric changes. I'm going to choose my favorite prints from Stitch and Flea Market plus a few favorites from Granny Chic and Prim too! I love how all of Lori Holt's fabric collections coordinate so well together!

I'm also joining in for the coordinating Flea Market Stitch Along too -yay! The cross stitch pattern coordinates perfectly with the quilt and is a year long project too! I prefer smaller cross stitch pieces for decor so I'm going to stitch up sections separately!

I will be sharing the tiny churn dash stitched blocks soon. I stitched one row of the churn dash and was off by ONE THREAD so I had to unpick the ENTIRE row :( . I put this project in time out for a bit, but I'm ready to restart it now :)

Mom Shelf Pillow - free pattern with Sulky

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #SewBetterWithSulky #SulkyThreads #Pillow

Hi Friends! Today I'm sharing a free pattern I wrote with Sulky - Mom Shelf Pillow! This project is perfect for an afternoon and is easy to customize!

The Mom Shelf Pillow project features patchwork piecing plus reverse appliqué technique. Don't worry if you are new to reverse appliqué - it is very easy.  Let's gather up the supplies needed!

The Mom Shelf Pillow Pattern includes the letters for M O M . I thought his sweet little pillow would be the perfect gift for your Mom this Mother's Day! Plus you could include a few of your favorite Sulky supplies ( thread, needles, Sulky KK 2000 spray, stabilizer, or a kit) with your Mom Shelf Pillow.

Of course - you could choose a different word or even a shape! Just choose large block letters or shape as it will be easier to cut out! Just remember the word can't be too long as it needs to fit on the top rectangle shape. Word ideas: Dad, Love, Fun, Hi, Yay, Sew !

I can't wait to see your Mom Shelf Pillows and variations!

Dazzle Pillow - Misty Morning

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #DazzleQuilt #RileyBlakeDesigns

Happy Quilting Day!!!  I’m excited to share my Dazzle Pillow with the sweet Misty Morning Fabric Collection designed by Minki Kim for Riley Blake Designs. I knew combining all 3 strawberry prints from Misty Morning would make a sweet pillow!

I absolutely love making pillows! It is the perfect project to use your sample/test quilt block OR if you want an inexpensive home decor project OR if you want to finish a project in one day! It is so nice to use a project the same day you made it!

I love adding an exposed zipper backing to my pillows. The exposed zipper gives a fun pop of color on the back side of pillow. PLUS it's functional as the pillow cover is removable for washing! Half-square triangles Tips!

Each Dazzle block contains 8 half-square triangle blocks. I think the half-square triangle is one of the most versatile block/shape and I love a perfect one!

*Tip 1 - Make the half-square triangle block a bit larger and trim to size. I love the Bloc-Loc half-square triangle ruler for this method.

OR

*Tip 2 - Use the desired size of AccuQuilt GO! half-square triangle die. THIS is my favorite method as it is so quick and no trimming needed!

Sandhill Sling - Hibiscus

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #RileyBlakeDesigns #Sandhillsling

Hi Sewing Friends! I’m excited to share my Sandhill Sling with the gorgeous Hibiscus Collection designed by Simple Simon for Riley Blake Designs. I've been wanting to make myself a Sandhill Sling for traveling and the Hibiscus Collection is a perfect match! Love love love it!

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #RileyBlakeDesigns #Sandhillsling

It is sew fun to choose my favorite fabrics for each sewing project. I begin by choosing the main fabric and coordinating prints next. I knew I wanted Hibiscus Foliage Hunter print for the exterior as I love the palm trees, cacti, and flowers plus the dark green is perfect to keep the Sandhill Sling looking clean while traveling. Which Hibiscus print would you choose?

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #RileyBlakeDesigns #Sandhillsling

I loved using the Hibiscus Ditsy Hunter fabric for the adjustable strap. It is more fun to have a coordinating print instead of plain boring webbing ;). I love the added detail of top-stitching the strap edges and middle. Hint - make your stitch length a bit longer for pretty stitching (I used a 3.0 stitch length on my Janome for top-stitching).

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #RileyBlakeDesigns #Sandhillsling

I prefer to use a lighter print for lining my bags as it is easier to see your bag contents. The Sandhill Sling has an elastic pocket in the main compartment to help organize your bag.

A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog #ABitofScrapStuff #RileyBlakeDesigns #Sandhillsling

Anna of Noodlehead (designer of Sandhill Sling) hosted a Sew Along for the Sandhill Sling and I highly recommend watching her videos for helpful hints on constructing your bag.

Tip: Making quilting cotton fabric "sturdy"
I added two layers of Pellon SF101 to the exterior fabric (pattern calls for 1 layer). This extra layer made the quilting cotton have a similar thickness to canvas and I love that extra bit of sturdiness for bags!

My Sandhill Sling and I are ready for traveling!!!
