Sunrise Quilt: Albion

Hi Friends! I loved sewing my Sunrise Quilt with the new Albion Collection by Amy Smart for Riley Blake Designs. The floral prints and colors are fabulous. I knew this collection would need a quilt pattern with large blocks so the fabric would shine. My Sunrise Quilt Pattern is the perfect match!

The Sunrise Quilt is a block based quilt so it's easy to make the quilt larger or smaller by making more or less blocks. I chose to enlarge the quilt by adding a border as I love the Albion Blue Flowers print.

Sunrise Quilt  77" x 77"

Supplies:

• Sunrise Quilt Pattern available in Pattern Shop or Etsy
• 18 Fat Quarter: Albion by Amy Smart for Riley Blake Designs
• 2 yards Background: Albion Ash Dots
• 2.5 yards Sashing and Blocks:  Albion Cream Flowers
• 0.75 yards Binding:  Albion Blue Stripes
• 1.5 yards Border:  Albion Blue Flowers
• 5 yards Backing:

Optional

• Bloc-loc half square triangle for block trimming OR
• AccuQuilt GO! 12" Qube

For perfectly sized half-square triangles - I recommend trimming your blocks with a Bloc-loc half-square triangle ruler OR using the appropriately sized AccuQuilt Die. Having perfectly sized blocks makes piecing your quilt so much easier!

OPTIONAL Outer Border Instructions

The original Sunrise Quilt doesn't have a border, but adding an outer border is super easy! 

• Choose 1.5 yards of your favorite print - mine is: Albion Blue Flowers
• Cut (8) 5.5" x WOF strips
• Sew strips together to form one very long narrow strip
• Measure quilt length. Example Quilt Length of 66.5"*. Cut (2) outer border strips 5.5" x 66.5"*. Sew (1) outer border strip to right side of quilt and (1) outer border strip to left side of quilt.
• Measure quilt width. Example Quilt Width of 77"*. Cut (2) outer border strips 5.5" x 77"*. Sew (1) outer border stripe to top of quilt and (1) outer border strip to bottom of quilt.

* Cut your border strips to the measured length and width of your quilt.

Binding Cutting Instructions if adding Border:

• Cut (8) 2.5" x WOF of binding fabric.

Sunrise Table Topper (or Wall Hanging) : Holiday Cheer

Hi Quilty friends! It's almost Christmas in July quilting season.  Are you ready to start sewing with the cutest Christmas Collection - Holiday Cheer. I loved choosing festive prints to make a Holiday table topper with the Sunrise Quilt Pattern.

Holiday Cheer designed by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake Designs is a vintage inspired Christmas collection with the cutest prints that are perfect for fussy cutting! I love the vintage Santas, stockings, wreaths, trees, and gingerbread cookies. So much Christmas cuteness!

Sunrise Quilt Pattern

Quarter-Square Triangle Block and Half-Square Triangle Block Tips

• Tip 1: Make the quarter-square triangle and half-square triangle block a bit larger and trim to size. I love the Bloc-Loc half-square triangle ruler for this method.

• Tip 2: Use the desired size of AccuQuilt GO! quarter-square triangle and half-square triangle die. THIS is my favorite method as it is so quick and no trimming needed

Machine Quilting

I completed the machine quilting with my Janome Embroidery Machine using Kimberbell Clear Blue Tiles with the included winter design. It was sooooo easy and looks  perfect! I highly recommend the Kimberbell Clear Blue Tiles System. I used Glide 40wt white thread and Superior (Organ) 90/14 Top stitch needle and all the stitches were perfect!

Sunrise Quilt - Enchanted Meadows

I'm often asked how I achieve matching points in my quilts. My quilting secret is the Riley Blake Designs Quilter's or Tailor's Clapper for pressing plus I use my AccuQuilt GO! dies for cutting perfect pieces.

Sunrise Quilt pattern is written for traditional rotary cutting and sewing - but I also share the AccuQuilt Die Sizes if you are an AccuQuilt fan too ;).

I loved selecting two coordinating Enchanted Meadow prints for each Sunrise Quilt block. My favorite print is the Enchanted Meadows Forest Animals print...I absolutely love the cute critters. Plus I love that I can fussy cut the center of the Sunrise Blocks, which is perfect for focusing your favorite bits of fabric. Fussy Cutting Tips - on my blog here.

I chose to add a border to my Sunrise Quilt because I love love love the Enchanted Meadow Forest Animal print ... the deer, fox, rabbit, hedgehog, and florals are just too cute! Adding a border to your quilt is the perfect way to show your favorite print AND make your quilt larger for cuddling with!

Sunrise Quilt - Easter Egg Hunt

Hi Quilty Friends! Today I'm sharing my first Easter Quilt!!!! When I saw the adorably cute Easter Egg Hunt fabric designed by Natalia Juan Abello for Riley Blake Designs ... I just had to make my Sunrise Quilt! This fabric has the cutest bunnies, carrots, florals, and fancy Easter eggs in beautiful pastel prints!

I chose to make my Sunrise Quilt Pattern as I could fussy cut the fabric easily for the block centers! Plus the fabrics colors look so pretty together. 

Just look at those bunnies! Total cuteness!

I also chose to add a border because of bunnies! Plus look at the sweet floral binding.
