Sugar Cone Pillow: Perfectly Pieced May 2024

I love love love the Sugar Cone Pillow from the Perfectly Pieced May 2024 project. The design is absolutely fabulous!  

The bonus project is the Sugar Cone Tote ... I will be making this tote too! I have some extra Albion fabric from my Sunrise Quilt- which is perfect!

Each Sugar Cone Quilt block is perfectly pieced and quilted using your embroidery machine! The 4" finished blocks are so cute and can be arranged to create so many patterns.

Making pillows is a favorite project for me as they are much quicker than a full quilt and are great for decorating! I do want use my scraps and make the tote bag too!

Summersault Pillows

Hello! Today I'm sharing reversible pillows I made with the Summersault Block Party Multi Panel available at Missouri Star Quilt Company.

This project is so quick because the Summersault - Block Party Multi Panel includes (4) 20" quilt block panels of two butterflies and two months.  I simply quilted all four panels then used my Reversible Pillow Tutorial (here) to finish both pillows.  Super quick and easy!

Supplies for (2) Summersault Pillows

• (1) Summersault - Block Party Multi Panel  by Tamara Kate for Windham Fabric
• 80/20 Batting or Pellon Fusible Fleece
• (2) 22" Zippers
• (2) 20" Pillow Inserts
• Optional: 1.5 yards of fabric for pillow interior 

Day or Night Decor:

For each pillow I used (1) Butterly and (1) Moth panel so the pillows could be reversed appropriately to correct time of day. Now my daughter can decided if she wants Daytime Butterflies or Evening Moths!

When making reversible pillows, I prefer to insert the zipper at bottom of the pillow. This way the zipper is hidden and makes the pillow truly reversible. 

I loved creating these fun summer pillows! They will definitely brighten up your decor!

Piece and Quilt Sampler: Month 2

It's Month Two of the Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop.  I'm having so much fun making the blocks for this fabulous sampler quilt. 

May Blocks:

• (1) 12" Album Star

• (1) 12" Hovering Hawks Block

I chose to make a 12" block instead of following the pattern for a 9" block with borders.

Tip:

For perfect half-square triangles and quarter-square triangles - I recommend:

Sunrise Quilt: Albion

Hi Friends! I loved sewing my Sunrise Quilt with the new Albion Collection by Amy Smart for Riley Blake Designs. The floral prints and colors are fabulous. I knew this collection would need a quilt pattern with large blocks so the fabric would shine. My Sunrise Quilt Pattern is the perfect match!

The Sunrise Quilt is a block based quilt so it's easy to make the quilt larger or smaller by making more or less blocks. I chose to enlarge the quilt by adding a border as I love the Albion Blue Flowers print.

Sunrise Quilt  77" x 77"

Supplies:

• Sunrise Quilt Pattern available in Pattern Shop or Etsy
• 18 Fat Quarter: Albion by Amy Smart for Riley Blake Designs
• 2 yards Background: Albion Ash Dots
• 2.5 yards Sashing and Blocks:  Albion Cream Flowers
• 0.75 yards Binding:  Albion Blue Stripes
• 1.5 yards Border:  Albion Blue Flowers
• 5 yards Backing:

Optional

• Bloc-loc half square triangle for block trimming OR
• AccuQuilt GO! 12" Qube

For perfectly sized half-square triangles - I recommend trimming your blocks with a Bloc-loc half-square triangle ruler OR using the appropriately sized AccuQuilt Die. Having perfectly sized blocks makes piecing your quilt so much easier!

OPTIONAL Outer Border Instructions

The original Sunrise Quilt doesn't have a border, but adding an outer border is super easy! 

• Choose 1.5 yards of your favorite print - mine is: Albion Blue Flowers
• Cut (8) 5.5" x WOF strips
• Sew strips together to form one very long narrow strip
• Measure quilt length. Example Quilt Length of 66.5"*. Cut (2) outer border strips 5.5" x 66.5"*. Sew (1) outer border strip to right side of quilt and (1) outer border strip to left side of quilt.
• Measure quilt width. Example Quilt Width of 77"*. Cut (2) outer border strips 5.5" x 77"*. Sew (1) outer border stripe to top of quilt and (1) outer border strip to bottom of quilt.

* Cut your border strips to the measured length and width of your quilt.

Binding Cutting Instructions if adding Border:

• Cut (8) 2.5" x WOF of binding fabric.

As it's fun to see different version of the Moonbeams Quilt,  I'm quilting with Old Glory by Lella Boutique. (also available at Fat Quarter Shop)

Quarter Square Triangles and Flying Geese Tips for perfect blocks: 

• I use my AccuQuilt GO! 3.5" unfinished (3" finished) quarter square triangle die or 12" Mix & Match Qube  to cut perfect blocks each time.  This is my preferred method as trimming isn't necessary so it's also the quickest!
• OR use  It's Sew Emma 3.5" unfinished (3" finished) quarter square triangle foundation paper

• I use my  AccuQuilt GO! 3" x 6" finished flying geese die or 12" Mix & Match Qube
• OR use It's Sew Emma 3" x 6" flying geese foundation paper

You may have noticed, my project looks a lot different from the original Moonbeams Charity Stitch. Instead of stitching the Moonbeams as one large project, I'm going to stitch the motifs separately and make a coordinating pillow each month!  

This sweet pillow is 4" x 4" and so cute! It will be perfect for Patriotic decor! It's so fun how much different a pattern can look when you change the colors. I  love how both of these pillows coordinate together!
