I'm so excited to sew along with Fat Quarter Shop with the Lady of the Lake - Classic & Vintage Series Sew Along! I love how Fat Quarter Shop takes a classic block and makes it easy to sew...complete with a video and pattern! Fat Quarter Shop has both the free one block download plus a low price purchase version pattern that includes multiple quilt sizes. I decided to sew 4 of the blocks and make a table runner...keep reading for the mini tutorial below!

Sewing Tips:
1. Sew 4 of the Lady of the Lake Quilt Blocks. I found using the Half Square Triangles on a Roll was super helpful for sewing perfect half square triangles with no specialty ruler needed plus it was super quick!
2. I cut my squares 10" instead of the 9&7/8" noted in pattern as I prefer to trim them down if needed.
3. If you do NOT want to piece your table runner backing- cut your (2) 10" squares first. Then cut the backing 23.5 x 60". You can use the left over piece to make the smaller half square triangles.
4. Follow directions on Half Square Triangles on a Roll paper to create 28 half square triangles. Be sure to decrease your stitch length (I used 1.6 and my usual is 2.5) to make it easier to remove papers and not have pulled stitches. My 3 year old often helps me remove the papers...so it is easy!
I LOVE perfect half square triangles! |
4. Sew together 4 blocks as provided in pattern
5. Art Gallery Fabrics -Soft Sand Linen Blend fabric - Cut (3) 3" x WOF from to make borders. Cut (1) of the strips into 2 pieces to match the height of your table runner. The other (2) strips will be the borders of the length of your project. I always measure my project before I cut the length of the my border strips so they fit well!
6. Layer and Quilt project. I chose to use Aurifil Light Sand 50wt 2000 as it was the perfect matching thread!
7. Art Gallery Fabrics -Soft Sand Linen Blend fabric - Cut (3) 2.5" x WOF for binding
Now you can enjoy your new table runner! I love the neutrals colors as they are perfect year round!
