Good Tidings Quilt Along - Flying Geese Instructions

Hi Quilty Friends! It is time to start piecing the Good Tidings Block - my favorite part of making a quilt! I love watching the cut pieces of fabric become a quilt...just like a fabric puzzle.

This week we will be sewing the Flying Geese Block ... I love this versatile block! Be sure to keep reading as you can make bonus half-square triangle blocks from the trimmed fabric scraps.

Bonus Half-Square Triangles 

Don't toss the trimmed off triangle fabric scraps. You can sew (2) triangles together to make a half-square triangle! 

Trim the half-square triangles to 2.5" squares. I like to use the Bloc-loc Half-Square Triangle Ruler for accurate trimming.  You can use the (72) half-square triangles to create a bonus project! My favorite scrap project is to make a pillow because each quilt needs a matching pillow :)

Sewing Tips:

• I chose to diagonal quilt the bag exterior pieces 2" apart. I used a Hera Marker and ruler for marking quilting lines. 
• I used a zipper foot when top stitching bag and attaching ties to D-rings so I could stitch close to the D-ring.

The On the Go Stylish Side Tie Bag closes with a magnetic snap and has one pocket between bag exterior and flap plus an interior slip pocket for your phone.

Cutting Tips

• I HIGHLY recommend using the Sue Daley / Riley Blake Designs 16" Rotating Circle Cutting Mat with the Lori Holt Cute Cuts Trim It 6.5" ruler when fussy cutting the Star Center (B) square

• If fussy cutting CHRISTMAS from the All About Typography fabric - be sure that you have 3 full repeats of CHRISTMAS so you are able to cut two 'S' or one may not be centered.
• If fussy cutting CHRISTMAS from the All About Typography fabric - be especially careful cutting the C and S letters. It will be a tight cutting.

• Alphabitties. These handy little plastic squares are great for keeping your cut pieces organized!

Serendipity Charity Quilt Along - Finishing

Hello Friends! Today is the Finishing Release for the annual Fat Quarter Shop Serendipity Charity Quilt Along  that benefits Make A Wish of Central and South Texas!!! I absolutely love the generosity of Fat Quarter Shop and am glad that I able to quilt and stitch along! So far over $80,000 has been donated to Make A Wish - so awesome!!!
