Persimmon Punch - bonus project

Today I want to share a bonus project from my Persimmon Punch Friday Bundle Batch from last week! I had just a few 2.5" squares left over....so I thought I needed a matching hot pad/pot holder to match my table runner!

A quick mini- tutorial.  Project finishes at a 10.5" square.

1. Cut out twenty five 2.5" squares total

- 5 squares - Strawberry Moon Petit Henna Garden Meadow 

- 4 squares - Sewing School Text Green

- 16 squares- a mix of: Basically Low Typewriter Text Gray, Moda Grunge Vanilla,Grunge Hits the Spot White Paper

Persimmon Punch Table Runner with Forth Worth Fabric Studio

I'm excited to share my Cottage Charm Table Runner with Persimmon Punch Friday Bundle Batch at Fort Worth Fabric Studio. I just loved sewing with this week's Friday Bundle Batch. The Cottage Charm Table Runner (available in the Sew This and That book) is such a fun and quick pattern to sew! I was able to sew the entire table runner including the binding and backing with the fat quarter bundle and a bit of Moda Grunge Vanilla (optional). I love being able to use every bit of my bundles. Plus I was able to save a few 2.5" squares for an extra bonus project that I will share next week ;).

The Persimmon Punch Friday Bundle Batch features Moda's Hazelwood with some Moda Grunge mixed in! It is such a lovely combination!

You'll receive 1 Fat Quarter of each:

1. Hazelwood Peonies Cloud - Moda

Ready to make your Persimmon Punch Table Runner-
Supplies

1. Persimmon Punch Fat Quarter Bundle

2. Moda Grunge - Vanilla - 1/4 yard

3. Sew This and That Book by Sherri Falls- Cottage Charm Table Runner on page 6

4. Aurifil Natural White Thread

5. 22" x 56" piece of batting

Cutting Fabric - You will need the book for the cutting measurements

Book color: Fabric from bundle

1. Light Squares: Basically Low Typewriter Text Gray and Moda Grunge Vanilla

2. Mint-green squares: Strawberry Moon Petit Henna Garden Meadow

3. Pink squares: Sewing School Text Green

4. Yellow squares: Grunge Hits the Spot White Paper

5. Coral squares: Hazelwood Leaves Persimmon

6. Mint Green Floral: Hazelwood Peonies Cloud

7. Binding:Pixies Square Dot Blender Lime (I cut mine 2.25" x 21" as I thought I needed 8 strips, but (7) 2.5" x 21" strips would've worked just fine as you only need 7 strips) 

Piecing- 

Follow pattern directions in book, but omit the appliqué.

Backing:

I chose to piece my backing by using my left over pieces from my fat quarter bundle! I love to use my entire bundle!  Plus it makes the project reversible.

Finishing and Quilting- 

I chose to free motion stipple using Aurifil natural white (perfect match) to quilt my table runner

A bit about the Sew This and That book

I love purchasing books as they are a great value! Fort Worth Fabric has the Sew This and That book on sale for $16.95...which means you get 13 patterns for only a little over a $1 per pattern! So much more affordable then $8-$12 for a single pattern! 

Here are a few of the projects I have made from this book (also with previous Friday Bundle Batches from Fort Worth Fabric Studio).  Two of the pillows are actually a table runner pattern, but I chose to sew one block instead of 3.

Symphony Quilt with Art Gallery Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop

I'm so excited to share my Symphony Quilt today! I just LOVE it when Fat Quarter Shop and Art Gallery Fabrics collaborate together as the results are fabulous! My Symphony quilt finishes at a large lap size at 72.5" x 72.5" size, which is perfect for family movie time or a picnic.

For my fabric choices I did a mix of Amy Sinibaldi's Charleston and Les Petites Collections. I love all of Amy's collection...she always has sweet prints in lovely colors and the basics match so nicely! Plus Art Gallery prints their fabrics on the softest feeling quilting cotton ever!

I always appreciate how clearly written Fat Quarter Shop patterns are and the full color diagrams in the Symphony pattern makes it even better! This quilt is perfect for an adventurous beginner (no tricky piecing, just lots of pieces) and beyond. I love how the large blocks show the fabric so well plus they create a secondary pattern! My 3 year old calls this her Hopscotch quilt ;) Have I mentioned this pattern absolutely FREE?!?!?

I just loved the Les Petites Check fabric for the binding! I'm quite sure I need a bolt of this fabric!

Matching Meadow Pillow - a bonus project!

I finally finished my matching Dovetail Meadow Pillow and I LOVE it!!! I had 30  4" half square triangles (3.5" finished) left over after trimming the blocks from my Dovetail Quilt. Do you remember my Dovetail Quilt??? Well here it is again below (it is one of my favorites!). Link to Dovetail Quilt blog post here.

I just love the Meadow Fabric by Camelot Fabrics and I couldn't throw away such darling fabric. Plus they were above my 2.5" minimum size for scrap saving and I had 30 of them! To make my pillow I just randomly placed 25 of the squares in a 5x5 grid layout. I flipped the triangles around in different directions....I LOVE that. I was stumped on quilting, but then with the help of Instagram friends...straightline quilting won! It was perfect and simple for this pillow! 

Now I still had 5 squares left over...no fear...I used them to piece the backing of my pillow! Yay for no waste! Plus I'm all heart eyes for the turquoise exposed zipper :)!

Wild Goose Chase Quilt with Fat Quarter Shop

Happy Friday!!! I just love this Classic and Vintage Wild Goose Chase Quilt with Fat Quarter Shop!!! I started out making one 17" block to make a pillow, but I LOVED it...so I thought I would make 9 blocks for a lap quilt instead.....since I had enough fabric to make 12 blocks...I upgraded my quilt to a twin size! I'm so glad I made the larger size as I have a feeling this will be a family favorite!

Don't worry about making 192 flying geese as Fat Quarter Shop shares an easy way to do this with perfect points using Flying Geese on a Roll (2x4" size).

Wild Goose Chase Quilt Pattern

Fat Quarter Shop is offering 2 version of the pattern - a free version with directions on making one block or a paid full quilt version with multiple sizes and fabric requirements.  I chose to make the Twin Size Version, which finishes at 63.5 x 80.5"

Tips on sewing this pattern (that worked for me)

• Watch the video on how to use Triangles on a Roll - this is a must!
• Cut the smaller squares at 3" (instead of 2&7/8" as pattern states)
• I used a Sewline glue stick to attach first triangle instead of a pin. (I lived on the edge and didn't use any pins)
• Sew with a scant 1/4" seam
• Place fabric on the lines of the paper...don't match up the fabric edges (opposite of regular sewing)
• Sew with a short stitch length to make it easier to rip paper off. I used 1.4 stitch length on my Brother Machine
• Tear off paper BEFORE trimming the finished 4 flying geese unit. If you trim first then you may be more likely to have popped stitches on the edges.

My Fabric Choices

 I used my May Sew Sampler F8 bundle of Karen Lewis Blueberry Park by Robert Kaufman. With creative cutting you can get 1 block per F8.  I cut (1) 4.5" square, (3) 5.25" squares, and then (4) triangles (same size as you get when you cut the 5.25" square into 4 triangles). I just loved how this bright fabric shines against the Alison Glass low volume prints (from my stash) I used as my background fabric.

Bella Skill Builder with Fat Quarter Shop -Month 6

Happy July 1st and welcome to Month 6 of the Bella Skill Builder with Fat Quarter Shop! I can't believe we are more than halfway done!!!

This month is Courthouse Steps and another one of my favorite blocks! I created an ombre effect by using 4 different shades of greens or pinks for my eight 6" blocks.  I really love the ombre blocks I have created!
