Layer Cake Custard Quilt - Swell Christmas

I'm excited to share my Layer Cake Custard Quilt! I love the Shortcut Quilts that Fat Quarter Shop Designs - they are quick to sew patterns and look great! The Layer Cake Custard Quilt is perfect for large scale fabrics- like Swell Christmas. Plus it was fun to use Moda Bella Betty's Red for the background fabric!

As I started sewing the Layer Cake Custard Quilt - I decided to super size it so it will fit on my bed! Christmas fabrics make me happy - so I think each bed in my home needs a Christmas Quilt! Swell Christmas by Urban Chiks is one of my favorite!

Supplies:
Swell Christmas Layer Cake *To make the larger size (2) Layer Cakes will be needed
Moda Bella Betty's Red Background
Layer Custard Quilt Pattern 

Quilt top all cut and labeled. I like cutting the full quilt at once so I can sew sew sew (my favorite part!)

Taking pictures of a 88" x 88" quilt is HARD especially when a bit windy! 

But those red leaves are beautiful!

Of course Fat Quarter Shop also created a Layer Cake Custard Video to help you sew your own!

I loved learning how to make hexies with liquid starch! I will definitely make hexies like this again! I left the fusible hexagons "in" my project. Since I added 2 more hexies to my pouch, I used the traditional paper hexies for the extra, which came out super easy with the starch method!

What I love about English Paper Piecing is that you can sew them together anywhere. My daughter and I watched a movie while I hand stitched! Super Thread’s Bottom Line bobbin thread is the BEST and makes your stitches invisible- even with the whipstitch.

I was trying to decide if I wanted to hand stitch my hexies to my pouch OR machine stitch them??? I went with quilting them down, which I love! I used the included Gutermann thread for the machine stitching down.

The Hexi Zipper Pouch is a good size pouch (10" x 12") so I added a wrist strap! I love the convenience of a wrist strap as I'm planning on using this Hexi Zipper Pouch LOTS! I seriously LOVE it!

My corners are actually boxed (not rounded), it's just hard to tell as I have the pouch laying down instead of standing up ;).

Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along - Week 5

We are on Week 5 of the Perfect 10 Sampler Quilt Along! This week are sewing the Dutch Chocolate and French Vanilla blocks! I'm thinking I need to sew the full French Vanilla Quilt with my layer cake stash!!!  I love selecting which fabrics from my Wild Bouquet 10" Stacker each week! I'm loving this fabric so much!

Cozy Up Mystery Quilt Along - Week 2 AND Prizes

Welcome to week 2 of the Fort Worth Fabric Studio - Cozy Up Beginner Mystery Quilt Along! Quilting is the best way to begin a Monday! Last week we cut the entire quilt top AND sewed 8 Snowman Blocks. 

This week we are making (4) Block B and (4) Block C - so it should be much quicker!

• Use your iron. Pressing your blocks makes the sewing much more accurate (and pretty).
• Now you have (16) blocks sewn! Do you have a favorite one???
