Janome Tutorial: Heartie Pillow

 

Hi Janome friends! I'm Melanie from Instagram @ABitofScrapStuff and A Bit of Scrap Stuff Blog.  Today  I'm sharing my Heartie Pillow Project on the Janome Project Page (here). 

The Heartie Pillow is a beginner project that is lovely for February!  Sewing together squares to create pixel patchwork is one of my most favorite projects. It's relaxing to sew all the tiny squares together and the final project is perfect for Valentine's Day! The Heartie Pillow is great  for your stash of red, pink, and white 2.5"squares.  I created the Heartie Pillow with my Janome M17, which I LOVE!

Tutorial:

Please read all instructions prior to beginning. Seam allowances are ¼”.

  Fabric Requirements

·      (42) 2.5” x 2.5” WHITE squares

·      (24) 2.5” x 2.5” RED squares

·      (15) 2” x 2” PINK squares

·      OPTIONAL Binding: 0.25 yards

·      22” x 22” Batting 

·      24” x 24” Pillow front backing *Optional. This fabric will be hidden in pillow interior.

·      Backing fabric: Size will depend on preferred method for Pillow Backing Closure (or use left over fabric for a patchwork backing for a reversible pillow)

·      20” Nylon Zipper  *Trim to size

·      18” x 18” Pillow Form

*Fabric used in cover pillow: I Love Us designed by Sandy Gervais and Bee Cross Stitch by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs

 

Quilt and finish Heartie Pillow as desired.

My Quilting Method: I chose to free motion a free-hand meander design with my Janome M17. 

• My Preferred Foot: Janome Darning Foot (open- toe) PD-H.  Other feet options for free motion quilting: Free motion quilting closed-toe foot QC, Free motion quilting open-toe foot (QO), A.S.R closed-toe foot ASR-QC, or A.S.R open-toe foot ASR-QO)
• My Preferred Free motion setting: Sewing Application -> Quilt -> Free motion -> Straight Stitch
• I prefer to use the Janome Darning Foot (open-toe) PD-H with the default Free Motion Quilting setting on the Janome M17. The settings are perfect and I don't need to make any adjustments for perfect stitches!  If you are beginner, I would recommend using the A.S.R foot and setting. 

Pillow Backing Method. I love an exposed zipper backing for pillows! The exposed zipper provides a pop of color and makes removing the pillow cover super easy to changes for seasons or washing.

Janome Tutorial: XO Pillow

Hi Janome friends! Today on the Janome Project Page (here),  I'm sharing my XO Pillow Project that I created with my Janome M17.

The XO Pillow is a fun and easy to make project for Valentine's Day. Sewing together squares to create patchwork is one of my most favorite projects. It's relaxing to sew and the project always looks great! The XO Pillow is also perfect for your stash of 2.5"squares. 

Tip: When choosing your fabric, decide if you want the X and O to be prominent or more of a mystery pattern to find.  Example: Solid fabrics will create prominent X and O, but a more scrappy look especially with low volume white squares the X and O will be less noticeable.  Choose what you like best!

I chose Lighthearted by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics for my project.

Fabric Requirements

(26) 2.5” x 2.5” RED squares. 

(55) 2.5” x 2.5” WHITE squares. 

22” x 22” Batting 

24” x 24” Pillow front backing *Optional. This fabric will be hidden in pillow interior.

Backing fabric: Size will depend on preferred method for Pillow Backing Closure

20” Nylon Zipper  *Trim to size

18” x 18” Pillow Form

Charmed Pillow Block Assembly

18.5” x 18.5” unfinished

Piecing Instructions:

·      Place (26) RED squares and (55) WHITE squares per layout diagram above. 

·      Sew together in rows using a 1/4" seam allowance.

Quilt and finish pillow with preferred method *.

My Quilting Method:  Straight-line quilting through center of each square.

- Janome M17: I used the Janome AcuFeed Open Toe Foot and 3.0 stitch length

- To mark my quilting lines, I used a ruler and Hera Marker to mark the center of each square

Zippered Pillow Backing: This is my favorite pillow closure and it's easy to change the pillow covers for seasons and washing!

AccuQuilt Mini Valentine Pillows

It will be Valentine's Day in few days so I wanted to share a cute and quick project that you can make in less than one hour.

How did I make these heart appliqués pillows WITH perfect decorative embroidery stitching in less than hour??? AccuQuilt came to the rescue with the GO! Queen of Hearts Die plus the coordinating GO! Queen of Hearts machine embroidery files by Marjorie Busby. Yes - I made my AccuQuilt GO! Cutting Machine do all the work for cutting perfect heart shapes and my Janome M550 stitched the decorate appliqué stitches. Teamwork :).  

These sweet little pillows are perfect to give to anyone that you love! Or make a few for yourself to enjoy and use them in your holiday decor.

Mini Valentine Pillows (4" x 5")

Supplies:

• AccuQuilt GO! Queen of Heart Die
• AccuQuilt GO! Cutting Machine
• AccuQuilt GO! Queen of Hearts embroidery files by Marjorie Busby
• AccuQuilt Fuse Me - fusible web
• Fabric Scraps: Mine are mixed collections designed by Bonnie & Camille
• PolyFil fiber filling
• Optional trim 

The AccuQuilt GO! embroidery files include multiple decorate stitching options that stitch perfectly around the cut shapes making it so easy! I thought it would be fun to use a different decorate stitch for each pillow and a different trim (mini pom poms or ric rack)

A mini Valentine pillow is the perfect little gift to show you care.

I Heart You Quilt

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Today I'm blogging about my I Heart You Quilt (55" x61") that I finished last year :). I used all of my favorite Bonnie & Camille fabrics and LOVE LOVE LOVE it sooooo much!

I enjoyed the sewing the I Heart You Quilt Pattern by Then Came June & Pen + Paper Patterns. But my favorite part was choosing my favorite Bonnie & Camille fabrics from my stash - I mixed sooooo many collections!

I just have to share the red/white striped binding because I love it!

I'm thinking my I Heart You Quilt be in my family room year round because hearts are just happiness and this quilt is full of my favorite favorite fabrics! I'm definitely ready to make another Red/Pink/Aqua quilt!

Jelly Glazed Hearts Pillows / Table Toppers

Hi Quilty Friends! Today I'm sharing a new project - Jelly Glazed Hearts with Fat Quarter Shop.  Hearts are often used for Valentine's Day, but I think hearts are perfect for year round decorating!

Jelly Glazed Hearts pattern is FREE at Fat Quarter Shop and is designed to be a tablerunner, but I changed mine a bit so I could make (2) matching table toppers or pillows! 

Jelly Glazed Hearts Pillows 
( 16.5" x 16.5" )

Supplies:

• Early Bird Jelly Roll by Bonnie & Camille for Moda 
• 1 yard background fabric: Early Bird by Bonnie & Camille for Moda
• 1/2 yard binding: Early Bird by Bonnie & Camille for Moda
• 1 yard backing: Early Bird by Bonnie & Camille for Moda
• Jelly Glazed Hearts Tablerunner  Pattern - FREE 

Pillow / Table Topper Adjustments:

• Cut background fabric (Fabric C) 10.5" squares
• Trim block to 16.5" x 16.5". I recommended leaving the full fabric length on the bottom of the heart and trimming the top of the heart to 16.5".
• Add a zippered backing so project can be a pillow or table topper.

I really loved creating my Jelly Glazed Hearts pillows with Early Bird fabric. The florals are just so lovely.  

When I make my zippered pillow backings - I love leaving the zipper exposed!  PS - I purchase my zippers in bulk and cut the zipper to the desired size (here).
