Hello! Today I'm sharing my Stepping Stones Mini Quilt from the fabulous - Make it Mini Book by Beverly McCullough. I love that Beverly added hand embroidery to each of the 13 small quilts in her latest book ... the hand embroidery gives each project the sweetest extra touch! Don't worry if you are new to hand embroidery (like me) as Beverly has included instructions in her book.

I chose to make the Stepping Stones Quilt as I love patchwork and the little squares were perfect for using a variety of prints from Enchanted Meadows - a fabric collection designed by Beverly McCullough for Riley Blake Designs. Yes - Beverly is quite the talented gal!!!
A close up to my hand embroidery is must share as I love this flower ... it's gorgeous. This was my first time stitching this floral design. Plus the coordinating Woodland Birdie needle minder is just so sweet (PS - the needle minder is also designed by Beverly)
I absolutely love to use Sulky 12 wt Cotton Thread for hand embroidery or cross stitch - it's my favorite. I chose to use 2 strands of Sulky 12wt for the hand embroidery. [ 2 strands of Sulky 12wt Cotton = 4 strands of DMC ]

Optional Zipper Backing:
I love to add a zipper backing to my Mini Quilts so I can easily add a pillow insert and my Mini Quilt becomes a Pillow - yay!
Plus I have an Exposed Zipper Tutorial - here.
I so enjoyed creating my Stepping Stones Mini Quilt. It was so fun to combine piecing, quilting, and hand embroidery in one project! I love learning new skills!!!
