Strippy Aunt Josie Mini Quilt with Maxie Mail

I'm so excited to share my Strippy Aunt Josie Mini Quilt from the March Maxie Mail Subscription Box! I just love this project so much!!! I'm not sure what I love more.....the gorgeous fabric or the pattern!

Just look at this month's fabulous subscription box from Maxie Mail.

I love how Maxie includes everything your need to make your Stripy Aunt Josie Mini Quilt top with binding...plus a bonus project! No wasted scraps!!! Plus Maxie creates a fabulous video tutorial for each project that shows you each step! This is perfect for beginners and experienced sewists for extra helpful hints.

Ready to start making your Stripy Aunt Josie Project (and Bonus)

Supplies:
1. Recollection Fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics (quilt top and binding) - included in March Box
2. Stripy Aunt Josie Pattern - included in March Box
3. Creative Grids Ruler 4.5" - included in March Box
4. Post-it tape- for marking ruler - included in March Box
5. Thread - included in March Box
6. Batting - from stash
7. Backing - from stash

Sewing:
I chose to sew my fabric in a different order than shown in the pattern. I wanted the white floral to be more noticeable so I placed it next to the center gray strip as shown below. Hint- be sure to sew a true 1/4" seam - NOT a scant seam.

Trimming:
Follow pattern instructions to trim 18 blocks for mini quilt (2 will be extra).

Assemble:
Sew blocks together in desired layout.

Bonus Project Time:
Assemble left over trimmed pieces as shown in pattern. I trimmed my blocks a little bigger than the pattern suggested so my left over project would be larger.

Assemble Bonus Project:
Sew blocks together in desired layout.

Quilt as Desired and Bind:
I chose to straight-line quilt my projects. I started at 1/2" apart then I decided to go crazy and added more stitching- so they are about 1/4" apart.  This super dense quilting uses A LOT of thread- so be prepared. I used one full spool of the included thread for one mini quilt.

Optional:
I chose to add zippered backings to my mini quilts so they could be pillows too!

A bit more about the Maxie Mail Subscription Box.

Maxie is mom to Bonnie Christine (the fabulous fabric designer with Art Gallery Fabrics)...so creativity is strong in their family! Each Maxie Mail box contains most of the needed supplies (if not all)  including gorgeous Art Gallery fabrics (they are sooooo soft) to complete a project each month.  I love how it is a class in a box as she creates a full "how to tutorial" video as well! I love learning new sewing skills each month! Click here to learn more.

A little glimpse into the March box (I'm better at sewing than iPhone videos ;) )

I had so much fun sewing my Strippy Aunt Josie Mini Quilt/Pillow with Bonus Project! I can't wait for April's box!  Thank you Maxie!

  1. This is a fabulous idea, postage makes it too expensive for getting in England though. I love your quilt and the cute cushion too, a girl can never have too many cushions. x

    1. Hi, Kay! I'd be happy to give you a quote for shipping to England if you'd like to email your town!

  2. Melanie! What a beautiful post! Don't tell, but I think I like your fabric placement better than mine! And that quilting is gorgeous. I hope you enjoy your pillows; they are wonderful! Thank you a million times.
