Favorite Little Things Friday Bundle Batch with Fort Worth Fabric Studio

Happy Friday! I'm so excited to share one of my favorite Friday Bundle Batch with Fort Worth Fabric Studio....which is so perfectly named Favorite Little Things

When I saw all the cute Calico Days Fabric by Lori Holt, I just couldn't wait to start sewing.  I chose a project from the super great book: Lucky Charm Quilts, which is available at Fort Worth Fabric Studio (plus it is on sale). I couldn't decide between a pillow or table topper....so I made both by just adding a zippered backing :)

  2. Wistful Winds Pink Dots - RIley Blake
  3. Calico Days Aqua Daisies - Riley Blake
  4. Sealed With A Kiss Script Lipstick - Robert Kaufman
  5. Toscana Surf's Up - Northcott
  6. Calico Days Pink Cherries - Riley Blake
  7. Swiss Dots Aqua - Riley Blake
  8. Hello Blossom Red Raindrops - Ella Blue

Did you know from one fat quarter...you can cut (12) 5" charm squares??? That means with each Friday Bundle Batch...you get 96 charm squares plus (8) 2.5" strip for scrappy binding per bundle. It also means you can make most of the projects in this Lucky Charm Quilts book by just adding a some background fabric!!! I just love using my bundle to the fullest!

This week I chose to make Two-Pack Buzz Quilt Pattern on page 30 of Lucky Charm Quilts.

You can actually make the entire quilt top with this Friday Bundle Batch if you add some background fabric!

I decided to make 4 blocks and use the Swiss Dot Fat Quarter for my background and border plus 2 fat quarters for the zippered backing to create a Table Topper/Mini Quilt/Pillow!

Helpful Tips if you want to make the 19.5" project above by making four blocks

Cutting for blocks - you will need the Lucky Charm Quilts book for the actual measurements plus a super easy and clever way to piece these blocks!
From Pattern Fabric "Charm fabric"
(16) rectangles
(8) charm squares
From Background Fabric
(8) charm squares
(4) 2" x WOF or 1.75" x 21" for borders

Sew four blocks together as shown and add borders - then quilt.

Backing - I chose to add a zippered backing so it could be a table topper or mini quilt or pillow! I chose these 2 adorable prints for my backing.

Be sure to tag your projects on social media with #sewingwithfwfabricstudio and @fwfabricstudio and me @mellierc so I can see them!

Happy Friday!!!

Snail Trail Quilt with Fat Quarter Shop

Happy Friday! I'm excited to share my Snail Trail project! I love the "Classic and Vintage Series" that Fat Quarter Shop is sharing with us today. The pattern includes 4 different sizes for your quilt - crib, lap, twin, and queen! I love a pattern that gives so many options! I chose to make the crib size without the borders and it makes a perfect table topper or extra large pillow at 24 x 24".

This is such a fun pattern to sew! I love the design it creates! My kids call it a ninja star fidget spinner :) I think it is going to be a fave in our family room!

For quilting I did straight-line quilting 5/8" lines apart from each other with Aurifil Dove 50wt.

Fabric I used:

Sewing Tips
1. Trim - Trim - Trim! Trimming after each round will ensure your seams match up and block finishes at the correct size.

2. I did use Creative Grids Stripology Squared Ruler and it was perfect for this project!

3. When sewing your blocks make sure are able to see where the seams match - this will ensure a perfect point/match.

Fat Quarter Shop is offering a Snail Trail Quilt kit featuring Snowman Gathering III.

Be sure to check out Fat Quarter Shop's Blog: Jolly Jabber and You-Tube Channel for the pattern and video!

Dovetail Quilt with Meadow Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop

I just love love love the new Meadow Collection from Camelot fabrics!!! It is even more beautiful in person!!! I wanted a quilt pattern that would allow the fabrics to standout as the prints are just gorgeous! When I saw the free Dovetail pattern with Fat Quarter Shop- I knew it would be perfect!

The Dovetail pattern creates a generous lap size quilt of 57.5" x 70.5" quilt. The fabric is cut into 5"x10" squares or 5.5"x 10.5" squares...so it is perfect for those fabrics that you want to show off. Plus the larger sizes of fabric means it sews together quickly. Don't let the y-seam in the pattern make you shy away....there are only 15 of them....and the directions are super helpful if you are new with Y-seams. Plus Fat Quarter Shop made a video!

A bit more about my fabric choices:

I was so excited to find the perfect backing fabric in my stash. I have been saving this Brambleberry Ridge fabric for the perfect project and this was it!

Ready to make one...here is what you need!

This Star Quilt Tutorial is my favorite as it uses the entire 8 fat quarters plus one yard of background fabric to make the quilt top and scrappy binding for a lap size quilt!!!! Keep reading for the Star Quilt Tutorial.

Tutorial for Garden Party Star Quilt (53" x 53")

Supplies

Cutting -Be careful cutting as you will use almost the entire fat quarter.

Star Points - 4 Fat Quarters  (cut from each fat quarter):
(1) 12" Square - cut on diagonal to make 2 triangles
(2) 4.5" x 11.5" Rectangles
(2) 2.5 x 18" Binding

*Hint for cutting for fat quarters. Cut (1) 12" x 21" rectangle. Then subcut the (1) 12" square. This will leave you with (1) 9" x 12" rectangle- subcut into (2) 4.5" x 11.5"rectangles.

Star Center - 4 Fat Quarters (cut from each fat quarter):
(1) 11.5" square
(2) 4.5" x 11.5" Rectangles
(2) 2.5 x 18" Binding

Background - Riley Blake Swiss Dots in Navy
(4) 12" Squares- cut on diagonal to make 2 triangles from each square (total of 8)
(4) 11.5" Squares

Corner 4-patches
(16) 2.5" squares (I cut these from my binding strips above)

Sewing
1. Sew (1) Star Point Triangle to (1) Background triangle to create a 11.5" half-square triangle. Make 8 total.

2. Sew (4) four-patch blocks to create corner blocks

3. Layout squares as shown below and sew together.

4. Quilt. I chose to stipple-meander my quilt. I "might" be addicted to stippling....I just can't stop! :)

5.  Bind. I just love a scrappy binding! Plus the backing matches perfectly!!!

This fabric is a perfect match for your quilt. This fabric is perfect for seam matching as the pattern repeat is small so minimal fabric waste!!! I will definitely do this again!

Thank you again to Fort Worth Fabric Studio for having me sew this quilt with this fabulous Garden Party Fat Quarter Bundle!!! Be sure to grab your bundle here before it sells outThis quilt is also for another fabulous teacher! My boys have had wonderful teachers this year!

Jelly Roll Railway Quilt with Print Shop Fabric

Happy Friday!!! Today I'm sharing my Jelly Roll Railway Quilt. This is another fabulous free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. The pattern recommends a Jelly Roll and background yardage.  I changed up the requirements and used a  Cotton + Steel Print Shop Fat Quarter Bundle and various low volume prints by Cotton & Steel. I even used 4 different fat quarters to make my borders! I love how flexible Fat Quarter Shop patterns are!

This is the sneak I shared on Instagram ;)

I just loved how the bright colors really shine against the low volume Cotton + Steel prints!  Be sure to grab your Print Shop fabric soon as it is almost sold out. Available here.

Fat Quarter Shop used the Berry Merry Collection by Basic Grey to make their quilt. Plus it is available as a quilt kit Available here.  I love their quilt! It is perfect for Christmas!
