Charming Baby Quilts Sew Along - Week 6

Hello! Today is Week 6 and FINAL week of the Charming Baby Sew Along with Fat Quarter Shop. This week we are sewing together our quilt top and backing - yay!!! I just love sewing together sampler quilts! It's so fun to create a quilt with lots of block sizes!

The Charming Baby Quilts Sampler Quilt is HUGE at 66.5" x 88.5" (a very generous twin size)...perfect for snuggling! Luckily I was able to take a photo on stairs so you could see the full quilt!

Of course a close up picture is needed so you can see the cuteness of the Farm Charm fabric-- the farm animals!

Farm Charm Collection: 

For my Charming Baby Sew Along Quilt, I used the Farm Charm Collection by Gingiber for Moda Fabrics. I love her illustrations and these farm animals are just too cute! Seriously look at the horses, sheep, and chickens!!!! Total cuteness overload :)

Quilt Front: 

I just love all the different blocks and sizes! The quilt has so much interest and is fun to look at! Plus you can search for the cute farm animals!

Quilt Backing:

I used a layer cake of Farm Fresh by Gingiber (an older collection, but coordinates so well with Farm Charm) to create a pieced backing! It's a double sided quilt now PLUS I used my stash so BONUS!

Sewing Tips for the Charming Baby Quilts blocks: 

• When using directional fabrics,  make sure your fabric pattern is the correct direction before cutting! 
• For perfect half-square triangles - I used my AccuQuilt GO! Qube Half-Square Triangle die (which I love as no trimming is needed).  
• Other options for half-square triangles: Bloc-loc Ruler and Half-Square Triangle Paper on a Roll
• I love using Diagonal Seam Tape by Cluck Cluck Sew. It is such a time saver as you do not need to draw the corner to corner sewing line on the backside of the fabric. 
• Don't forget to use pins for perfect points! I love the Magic pins!
• Press, press, press these blocks!

Just look at all the crinkly goodness!!! Time for snuggling with my Charming Baby Quilts Sampler Quilt. I will be making more of the quilts in the Charming Baby Quilts book - they are so fabulous!

Over the next six weeks we are going to make a cute sampler quilt 66.5"x 88.5"  using blocks from each quilt project in the Charming Baby Quilts book by Melissa Corry. Each Wednesday, Fat Quarter Shop will release a free pattern with (2) blocks from (2) different quilts from the Charming Baby Quilts book. You will need the Charming Baby Quilts book for complete block piecing instructions (here).

I was sooooo excited to receive the At Home Jolly Bar designed by Bonnie & Camille  for Moda Fabrics. A Jolly Bar is a Moda precut exclusive to Fat Quarter Shop and contains (42) 5 "x 10" rectangles. The template is made of thick acrylic plastic so you can trace with your favorite marking pen onto your quilting project and stitch on the marked lines for perfect scallops and waves. Alphabitties Expansion Pack

Alphabitties are a must for me! I use them when assembling quilt blocks AND when sewing my quilt rows together! Alphabitties keep me organized and help me know, which piece I need to sew next! The expansion pack is needed as so many patterns have numbers 10-19 and double alphabet letters (Lori Holt large patterns). 

Beeswax Thread Conditioner

I'm excited to try the Posey Handmade Beeswax Thread Conditioner for cross stitching! Hopefully no more floss tangles ;). It would also be great for paper piecing and hand stitching binding.  PS - it smells like honey!

Track #1

Each month, Sew Sampler Members receive a block pattern for the current Sew Sampler Mystery Quilt.
