Zipper Pouch Tutorial - Let's start sewing

Hi Sewing Friends! Today I'm sharing a free pattern/tutorial on making your own zipper pouch. This large pouch is perfect for your iPad Mini or sewing supplies or anything! I love making zipper pouches as they are a quick project plus make fabulous gifts!

I made my own textured exterior fabric with American Brand Dark Orchid solid fabric and my Janome 550E embroidery machine. All that fabulous textured stitching was done with my awesome Janome 550E - it was so easy to make my own original fabric! Plus my Janome 550E did all the hard work stitching for me - I just needed to select the design and press the start button!

Let's start sewing (and embroidering)!
Supplies:

The Zipper Pouch Tutorial (along with the embroidery design information) is all included in the PDF (here) plus it's free! I thought the PDF version would be easier for printing or for looking at on your tablets instead of a giant blog post ;).  There are photos included for each step. I even include photos of my machine settings too!

It's easy to adjust the size of your zipper pouch too - here are some hints
  • Cut Exterior and Lining fabrics the SAME size. Example: Cut  (2) Exterior fabrics and (2) Lining fabrics rectangles 7.5" x 11.5" rectangles
  • Use zipper tabs to finish zipper ends and CUT zipper 1" shorter than the length of the exterior and lining fabrics. Example: If exterior fabric is cut 7.5" x 11.5" - CUT zipper 10.5" after attaching one zipper tab. Cutting the zipper 1" shorter allows you to sew your zipper pouch with 1/4" seams and NOT stitch over the zipper tabs.

A bit about my Janome Machines.
I'm fortunate to be a Janome Maker, which is awesome as I absolutely love the quality of Janome machines! I love how reliable and easy to use Janome machines are! Sewing/quilting is my relaxing time and I love knowing that I can sit down at my Janome sewing machine and it will stitch perfectly! No stress here!

Janome Continental M7 Professional

I absolutely love the giant throat space on my M7! I machine quilt all my quilts so this extra space makes it soooo much easier! It is so fast with 1300 stitches per minute with a  DC brushless motor and a full metal frame - such quality! Plus the stitch plates just pop off with a button (thanks to magnets) and a drop in bobbin - so easy. If you want read more about the awesome AcuFeed System or the included 400 stitches, 13 button holes, 23 feet, or AcuSpark app --- just click here.

I've been using the M7 for almost 2 months and it is AMAZING! LOVE LOVE LOVE

Janome Memory Craft 550E

The 550E is an absolutely amazing embroidery machine! Within a week of receiving my machine,  I took a Kimberbell embroidery class and I was so impressed how easy it is to use this machine.  Here's a peek at my first project - I pieced the quilt block, quilted the quilt block, and made the envelope backing ALL with my 550E in the hoop...it was amazing!

I've been having so much fun with the 550E and want to embroider everything!!! I have more projects planned!  To learn more about the Janome 550E click here

I'm loving creating all of my projects with my Janome M7 and 550E!!!!
