Hello quilty friends! Today I'm sharing my NEWEST quilt -- Sunrise Quilt! I absolutely love this quilt with the gorgeous New Dawn Fabric designed by Citrus & Mint for Riley Blake Designs. Hint -- there will be lots of pictures :).
I love beautiful floral prints and strawberries so New Dawn was a "must have" fabric collection for me.
When I received the New Dawn fabric, I wanted to create a large quilt block so the fabric could shine. Plus I love being able to fussy cut the center square of the Sunrise Quilt block!
I really love how the Confetti Cottons Scuba solid fabric makes the New Dawn fabric pop. It's fun to use a bold background fabric and then a lighter fabric for the sashing. I think this combination makes the sashing fade away a bit and the Sunrise Quilt blocks stand out.
Don't worry about all the points in the Sunrise Block. It's a large block, which makes it easier to sew! I give pressing recommendations in the pattern so your block will come together easily with less bulk and nesting seams when possible. The Sunrise Quilt pattern has traditional rotary cutting and piecing directions, BUT if you are an AccuQuilt fan for "no trimming" half-square triangles and quarter-square triangles - I share the AccuQuilt dies I used.
Ready to make your Sunrise Quilt with New Dawn Fabrics ...
Supplies:
- Sunrise Quilt Pattern - PDF (Etsy) or (PayHip)
- (18) Fat Quarters - New Dawn designed by Citrus & Mint for Riley Blake Designs
- 2 yards Background - Confetti Cottons Scuba by Riley Blake Designs
- 2.5 yards Sashing and Block - New Dawn Bees Cream designed by Citrus & Mint for Riley Blake Designs
- 0.625 yard Binding - New Dawn Plaid Cream designed by Citrus & Mint for Riley Blake Designs
- 4 yards Backing - Blossom Raspberry designed by Christopher Thompson for Riley Blake Designs
OPTIONAL:
Of course I had to use New Dawn Plaid Cream for the binding! I always love a plaid fabric for the binding!
The Sunrise Quilt is a block based quilt so it's easy to make the quilt larger or smaller by making more or less blocks. I also think it would look fabulous if you wanted to add an outer border with your favorite print from the New Dawn Collection!
I absolutely love my Sunrise Quilt... so I have share a few more photos :)
I'm definitely going to have make another project with my left over New Dawn fabrics because it's just too pretty not to use every last bit! Maybe I will make myself a new project bag for my stitching????
