Snowflake Sparkle Friday Bundle Batch with Fort Worth Fabric Studio

I love these gorgeous metallic and sparkly fabrics in the Snowflake Sparkle Friday Bundle Batch with Fort Worth Fabric Studio. I just can't resist a sparkly fabric :) This bundle features stunning fabrics from Artisan Snowflake Batiks by Robert Kaufman.

I thought the Snowflake Sparkle fat quarter bundle would be perfect to make matching winter pillows! Once again, I used the Holiday Wishes book available at Fort Worth Fabric Studio for the snowflake and snowman patterns. By adding borders to the blocks I was able to make 18" pillows! You can make both pillows (backing included) with one fat quarter bundle.

Be sure keep reading if you want to make matching kitchen towels too!

Supplies for both pillows:

1. Snowflake Sparkle fat quarter bundle
2. Holiday Wishes Book
3. Scrap red, orange, and black fabric (from previous Friday Bundle Batches)
4. Buttons (for snowman eyes and mouth)
5. Aurifil thread
6. Batting if quilting pillow top
7. (2) 18" pillow forms

Snowflake Pillow 18" finished

1. Make (1) Snowflake block from the Let it Snow Pattern on pages 42- 46. Block will be 15.5" unfinished.
2. Cut border fabrics- I used a similar dark blue fat quarter from my bundle for the border as I didn't have enough of the blue fabric I used in the block.
(2) 2" x 15.5"
(2) 2" x 18.5"
3. Attach borders as shown below

4. Quilt, if desired
5. Finish using favorite pillow back method (Use left over fat quarters for backing).

Snowman Pillow 18" finished

1. Make (1) Snowman block from the Let it Snow Pattern on pages 42- 46. Block will be 15.5" unfinished.
2. Cut border fabrics- I used the same fabric as the snowman block background
(2) 2" x 15.5"
(2) 2" x 18.5"
3. Attach borders as shown below

4. Quilt, if desired
5. Attach button eyes and mouth. Sew on nose and stick arms.
5. Finish using favorite pillow back method (Use left over fat quarters for backing).

Strawberry Sunshine Quilt with Fort Worth Fabric Studio

I just love this Strawberry Sunshine Friday Bundle Batch from Fort Worth Fabric Studio. We always need a some sunshine in the form of beautiful fabric. When I saw the Strawberry Festival Berries Pink fabric (love those strawberries) and Small Flowers Red (such sweet flowers)...I just fell in love with this bundle! My daughter loves it too and requested a quilt for her big girl bed. She will get a matching pillow soon too :).

I decided to use Cluck Cluck Sew's Free Heart Pattern/Tutorial to create the hearts. Allison is sew generous by providing the pattern for free and sharing the measurements for many sizes of the hearts!
I wanted to enlarge the quilt and use more of the beautiful fabrics in the bundle so I added 10.5" squares by the hearts.  I love how happy this quilt is and that I could make this 50.5" x 50.5" quilt with the Strawberry Sunshine Fat Quarter Bundle and 1 yard of backing fabric.

Supplies to make your Strawberry Sunshine Quilt

2. Background fabric -1 yard. I would recommend 1.25 yards in case of a cutting error and the extra can be used for scrappy binding. I used the adorable Strawberry Festival Starburst Red/Pink...plus it is on sale!
3. Binding - 0.5 yard. Or you can you use the extra FQ scraps to create a scrappy binding. I used fabric from my stash as I want to make a matching pillow with my scraps.
4. Did you know Fort Worth has Aurifil thread too???? I used Aurifil 50wt  2024 for piecing and the free motion quilting.

Time to start cutting

1. You will be making (12) 6" finished hearts using Cluck Cluck Sew's Heart Pattern.
2. Cut (13) 10.5" squares from your Strawberry Sunshine bundle. I suggest cutting these blocks first using the length of the fat quarter so you can make one 10.5" x 21" cut and sub cut into (2) 10.5" squares (don't worry if a tiny bit of the selvage is on the edge of your block as that should end up in the 0.25" seam).
3. Cut from background fabric (same background fabric as you used in the heart as this will be the border around the heart block)
(24) 2.5" x 10.5" rectangles
(24) 2.5" x 6.5" rectangles

Time to start sewing

1. Sew hearts together using Cluck Cluck Sew's tutorial. Click here.  She even shows you how to attach the border strips around the heart. Just make sure to use the measurements I gave for the borders as you will want the block to be 10.5" square unfinished.

Heart finishes at 6" square. Block with borders is unfinished at 10.5" square

2.  Arrange the (12) heart blocks and (13) square blocks into a 5 x 5 grid pattern and sew together.

3.  Finish quilt: Add batting and backing - then quilt as desired. I chose to free motion quilt a stipple pattern. I love how it crinkles so nicely when washed!

4. Bind quilt. You should have enough left over fabric from your fat quarter bundle and background (if you chose 1.25 yards) to make a scrappy binding. Even though, I love a scrappy binding- I decided to save my scraps to make a matching heart pillow.

Thank you again for stopping by my blog! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Be sure to grab your bundle here before Strawberry Sunshine disappears behind the clouds!

I'll be back next Friday with another project with Fort Worth Fabric Studio....hint....think snow!

Pumpkin Spice Maple Leaf Pillow or Mini Quilt with Fort Worth Fabric Studio

I'm so excited to share my Pumpkin Spice Maple Leaf pillow with you! I love the Friday Batch Bundle- Pumpkin Spice from Fort Worth Fabric Studio....it is the perfect autumn bundle!  Such pretty browns and creams! I love the pumpkins and fall words fabric and didn't want to cut it up so I saved it for my backing. Check out the Pumpkin Spice bundle here.

Below I have a mini tutorial for you to make your own Pumpkin Spice Maple Leaf Project!  I love being able to create a full project with just the fat quarter bundle and a bit of scrap batting.

Below is a mini tutorial to make your own 9" finished Maple Leaf blocks that you can use to create a 20.5" square mini quilt or pillow or table topper or all three ;) I like to make a zippered closure or envelope backing on my mini quilts so I can use it as pillow or mini quilt or a table topper! I like the options :)

Supplies:
1. Pumpkin Spice Bundle -Fat Quarter size. This will be enough for top, backing, and binding
2. Batting from stash
3. Zipper optional-for zippered pillow

Maple Leaf Block  - 9.5" unfinished or 9"finished

Cutting for one block
(Be sure to cut the fabric so that you can cut (4) 1.5"x 21" border strips later)

Background fabric
(2) 4" squares
(2) 3" squares
(1) 3.5" square

Leaf fabric
(2) 4" squares
(4) 3.5" squares

Sewing

A. Half-Square Triangles
1. Place one background fabric 4" square on top of leaf fabric 4" square with right sides together.
2. Draw line on back of fabric on the diagonal (from one corner to opposite corner)
3. Sew 1/4" away from drawn line

4. Cut on drawn diagonal line.  You should now have (2) half square triangles.
5. Trim to 3.5" square
 6. Repeat steps above. You should now have (4) 3.5" half square triangles

B. Making Stem block
1. Draw diagonal line on back of (2) 3" squares of background fabric.
2. Place one 3" background fabric on top of 3.5" leaf fabric. (Line up corner and 2 edges)
3. Sew along drawn diagonal line (corner to corner)
4. Trim 1/4" away from sewn line and press.
5. Repeat steps 2, 3, 4 to complete stem
C. Assembling block
1. Arrange 3.5" squares and sew together as shown below. Maple Leaf block will be 9.5"unfinished.

To create pillow or table topper or mini quilt

1. Sew 4 Maple Leaf Blocks
2. Sew 4 Maple Leaf blocks together into a four patch. Finished size is 18.5" x 18.5"
3. Cut (4) 1.5" x 21" border strips
4. Sew (1) border strip to each edge (trim to size). Finished size is 20.5"x 20.5"

5. Quilt.
I chose to quilt wavy lines as it reminded me of leaves blowing in the wind.
- If making pillow: Only quilt top and batting together.  Then assemble pillow backing with favorite method (zipper or envelope).
- If making mini quilt/ table topper: Quilt all three layers together (top, batting, and backing)

Example of pillow backing below

6. Binding.
I cut (5) 2.5" x 21" strips from my left over fabric to make my binding.

7. Now enjoy your Pumpkin Spice Maple Leaf Project! Mine is pillow on our couch :) I like the idea of a table topper, but my kids are still young and messy at meal times ;) .

I LOVE this week's Friday Bundle at Fort Worth Fabric: Little Red! Isn't the bundle just gorgeous! I always love shimmery and glittery fabric!

When I saw the metallic fabric plus cardinals...I knew it would be the perfect table runner for my Grandparents (my Grandpa makes bird houses and they love watching birds in the yard)! I used another block from the Holiday Wishes Book. I love how versatile and easy to follow her patterns are! Check out the mini tutorial below! I even made a bonus project ;)

Supplies:
4. 1 yard backing fabric
Optional: Alphabitties are super helpful and make sewing this pattern a breeze.

Table Runner  size approximately 15.5" x 72"

Cutting and Sewing

1. Make 3 blocks of Midnight Clear Block of the Month- Block 5 on pages 72-73.  I chose this block to highlight the cardinal fabric. For each block- substitute red fabric instead of background for 8 (C) squares.

Left Block

Right Block
2.For each block- cut borders from chosen background fabric

4. Cut fabric for rectangles between blocks

B. Metallic linen (I used) or Vincent VanGoh Notes (6) 1.5" x 15.5"

Timber Quilt with Fat Quarter Shop and Art Gallery plus GIVEAWAY

I'm so excited to share my Timber Quilt! It is a fabulous and FREE pattern with Fat Quarter Shop and Art Gallery Fabrics! I decided to mix Amy Sinibaldi's Playground and Maureen Cracknell's Nightfall collections and I just love it! This might be my most favorite quilt right now! Just look at the gorgeous fabrics.

The Timber quilt pattern is fun to sew and easy to follow! I just love all those lovely fall colors together! Plus the size is fabulous at 64.5" x 80.5" !

I decided to free motion quilt an all over stipple pattern on my Timber Quilt. This was the largest quilt I have stippled on my home machine (I dream of a larger sewing machine). It went really well until the quilt folded and I quilted the front to the back...eek...luckily I caught it quickly so I only had a little to unpick ;)

Here are the details to make your very own Timber Quilt!

Be sure to check out all of the lovely quilts from other Fat Quarter Shop Bloggers.

Heading South Quilt with Round Elements Fabric

I'm so excited to share my Heading South Quilt (all 115 flying geese :) ) with  Art Gallery Round Elements. When Afton, from Quilting Mod, announced the challenge and lovely fabric....I jumped at the chance to join in!

This is the bundle that Afton sent me...I just LOVE it! The colors are perfect! Plus Art Gallery Fabric always feels so nice!

I knew I wanted to use every last piece....and with very careful cutting.....I did! I had a flying geese ruler and the Heading South Pattern by Material Girl Quilts that I've been wanting to try....so here are my triangles for the 115 flying geese.

I was trying to decide between straight-line or wavy-line quilting...wavy quilting won! I always think I will quilt my lines farther apart, but then I just can't. I just love the crinkly look when quilting closer.

I was super excited to find the perfect backing fabric. It is Follow Me Peach from the Hello Bear Collection by Art Gallery....it's looks just like flying geese!

Thank you again to Afton for hosting such a fun challenge and for sending me the F8 bundle with goodies!!!

Have a great day!!!!

Melanie
