Stardust Charity Quit Along: Release 1

 

The Stardust Charity Quilt Along (and Stitch Along) with Fat Quarter Shop has officially started!  This is the 12th annual Charity Quilt Along, which benefits Make-A-Wish (donate here). 

On May 2, the first of two releases is available. I love that the quilt is a smaller this year (54.5" x 54.5") ...  the perfect lap size!

Fun tip: This pattern will also work with a Layer Cake if you want a scrappy Stardust Quilt!  The pattern requirements are not written for a layer cake, but it will work as I finished mine already and I love it :).

Supplies:

• 1 Carousel Layer Cake by Melody Miller with Ruby Star Society/Moda Fabric
• 1.75 yard Background: Carousel Mushroom Print by Melody Miller with Ruby Star Society/Moda Fabric
• 0.75 yard Binding: Carousel Mushroom Print by Melody Miller with Ruby Star Society/Moda Fabric
• 3.75 yards Backing Fabric

Fabric Selection: My Stardust Quilt will be scrappy as I'm using a Carousel Layer Cake instead of just 4 prints. I did separate out the fabrics by color in the Carousel Layer Cake as I want my Stardust Quilt layout to have a color gradient .... I can't wait to share the full quilt!

Tip:

For perfect half-square triangles, I recommend using the Bloc-loc half-square triangle ruler. The 6.5" size will work for release 1, but I suggest purchasing the 9.5" for both release 1 and 2 of the Stardust Quilt.

Make-A-Wish Donation:

Fat Quarter Shop releases the Stardust Quilt Pattern for free, but if you are able to donate to Make-A-Wish ... that would be amazing! Fat Quarter Shop and Moda are both so generous with additional donations of $30,000. New this year, Fat Quarter Shop is gifting the first 500 donors to donate an amount of $75 or more will receive a special limited edition Stardust Bear as a thank-you gift  PLUS an additional bear will be given to a Make-A-Wish child.

Boo Crew Mystery Quilt - Release Two

Welcome back to week 2 of the  Boo Crew Mystery Quilt with Fat Quarter Shop! This week we are sewing the cutest ghost and spooky candle!

I'm sewing my Boo Crew Quilt with Spooky Darlings designed by Ruby Star Society. I love all the fabrics prints as they are perfect for fussy cutting! 

Yes - I made sure all of the ghosts were the correct direction for the ghost ... it was definitely worth the extra time! This ghost is sooooo spooky cute!

• Candle & Ghost Block measures 13.5" x 18.5" 

Candle Flame: I chose to use one fabric print for the candle flame, which I love! If you want this same variation: use the same fabric for H and J and fabric I will not be needed.

Fat Eighth Flapjacks Quilt

Hi Quilty Friends! Today I'm sharing a FREE quilt pattern - available HERE! The Fat Eight Flapjacks Quilt designed by Fat Quarter Shop is a fun and quick quilt to make! It's perfect for Fat Eighth bundles or your stash.

I used the fabulous Golden Hour Fat Quarter Bundle designed by Alexia Abegg  for Ruby Star Society.  You can totally use Fat Quarters as (1) Fat Quarter = (2) Fat Eighth.

 I totally LOVE the colors of the Golden Hour Collection. Alexa also just released her latest fabric collection: Heirloom, which has similar colors and would look fabulous too!

My Fat Eighth Flapjacks Quilt is missing the outer border...this was an unintentional design, but I love it! I was basting my quilt and couldn't figure out why my backing fabric was soooooo large compared to my quilt top. I thought I must have measured my quilt backing incorrectly so I continued to baste my quilt and then trimmed off the excess batting. THEN I realized I had forgotten to add the border....oops!

I tried new free motion quilting with loops (some large and some small) and I LOVE it! No marking was needed as I made the loops fit within the block strips! It did take quite a bit of time and thread for this quilting design, but so worth it!

My Golden Hour Fat Quarter Bundle has more than 11 Fat Quarters so I had enough fabric for a scrappy binding, which I totally love!

Serendipity Charity Quilt and Cross Stitch Along - Finished

Hello Friends! Today is the Backing Pattern Release for the annual Fat Quarter Shop Charity Quilt Along  PLUS I'm sharing my fully finished Serendipity Cross Stitch - I LOVE it!!! Here is a peek ... so keep on reading ;) 

Over $80,000 has been raised for Make A Wish of Central and South Texas! I absolutely love the generosity of Fat Quarter Shop and am glad that I able to quilt and stitch along!

I like taking the extra time to piece my quilt backs because now I have a double-sided quilt!!!  I love that both quilt sides are fabulous and match! 

I chose to sew my quilt label into the flower block.  PS - I pay for a  Sweetwater label membership as I love having personalized labels mailed to me each month. 

I seriously love my Serendipity Quilt so much! Sampler quilts are always so fun to make as I love the block variety! 

I really love how I used a light fabric for the quilt front backing and the opposite with a navy fabric for the quilt back - so fun! Here is a fun side by side look!

I wanted my Cross Stitch piece to match my quilt so I chose coordinating  DMC floss.

Auction Time

If you didn't have a chance to make a Serendipity Quilt - you can bid/purchase a finished quilt made by Corey Yoder or Pat Sloan or Kimberly Jolly. Kimberly is also donating (2) Sewcialites Quilts too!  100% of the sale of these quilts will benefit Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas to support their wish-granting work for children with critical illnesses. The auction is open on Ebay now through Saturday, July 24 at 7 AM CST.
