Zipper Pouch Tutorial - Let's start sewing

Hi Sewing Friends! Today I'm sharing a free pattern/tutorial on making your own zipper pouch. This large pouch is perfect for your iPad Mini or sewing supplies or anything! I love making zipper pouches as they are a quick project plus make fabulous gifts!

I made my own textured exterior fabric with American Brand Dark Orchid solid fabric and my Janome 550E embroidery machine. All that fabulous textured stitching was done with my awesome Janome 550E - it was so easy to make my own original fabric! Plus my Janome 550E did all the hard work stitching for me - I just needed to select the design and press the start button!

Let's start sewing (and embroidering)!
Supplies:

The Zipper Pouch Tutorial (along with the embroidery design information) is all included in the PDF (here) plus it's free! I thought the PDF version would be easier for printing or for looking at on your tablets instead of a giant blog post ;).  There are photos included for each step. I even include photos of my machine settings too!

It's easy to adjust the size of your zipper pouch too - here are some hints
  • Cut Exterior and Lining fabrics the SAME size. Example: Cut  (2) Exterior fabrics and (2) Lining fabrics rectangles 7.5" x 11.5" rectangles
  • Use zipper tabs to finish zipper ends and CUT zipper 1" shorter than the length of the exterior and lining fabrics. Example: If exterior fabric is cut 7.5" x 11.5" - CUT zipper 10.5" after attaching one zipper tab. Cutting the zipper 1" shorter allows you to sew your zipper pouch with 1/4" seams and NOT stitch over the zipper tabs.

A bit about my Janome Machines.
I'm fortunate to be a Janome Maker, which is awesome as I absolutely love the quality of Janome machines! I love how reliable and easy to use Janome machines are! Sewing/quilting is my relaxing time and I love knowing that I can sit down at my Janome sewing machine and it will stitch perfectly! No stress here!

Janome Continental M7 Professional

I absolutely love the giant throat space on my M7! I machine quilt all my quilts so this extra space makes it soooo much easier! It is so fast with 1300 stitches per minute with a  DC brushless motor and a full metal frame - such quality! Plus the stitch plates just pop off with a button (thanks to magnets) and a drop in bobbin - so easy. If you want read more about the awesome AcuFeed System or the included 400 stitches, 13 button holes, 23 feet, or AcuSpark app --- just click here.

I've been using the M7 for almost 2 months and it is AMAZING! LOVE LOVE LOVE

Janome Memory Craft 550E

The 550E is an absolutely amazing embroidery machine! Within a week of receiving my machine,  I took a Kimberbell embroidery class and I was so impressed how easy it is to use this machine.  Here's a peek at my first project - I pieced the quilt block, quilted the quilt block, and made the envelope backing ALL with my 550E in the hoop...it was amazing!

I've been having so much fun with the 550E and want to embroider everything!!! I have more projects planned!  To learn more about the Janome 550E click here

I'm loving creating all of my projects with my Janome M7 and 550E!!!!

I hope you enjoy my Zipper Pouch Tutorial! Don't forget to download the free PDF for the full tutorial (here). Please share your zipper pouches with me - I love seeing projects from my tutorials / patterns!

Layered Cake Quilt - Shine Bright Edition

Hi Quilty Friends! I'm excited to finally share my Layered Cake Quilt - Shine Bright edition! This quilt has been busy traveling with Clothworks as it was at Spring Quilt Market and then a quilt shop sample, but now it's back home and my unicorn loving daughter is soooo happy!

You might notice this quilt already has the cuddle-wrinkle look ... as I needed to wash and dry the quilt prior to quilt photos due to some spilled milk when it arrived home.  It is loved all ready!

The Layered Cake Quilt pattern is one of my favorites to sew as it uses all (42) 10" squares and has no matching seams - yay!!!  When I saw the cute panels included in the Shine Bright Collection - I updated the original Layered Cake Pattern with a pieced center insert.

Firework Fizz - Vintage Happy 2 Quilt

Hi Quilty Friends! I'm sharing my latest quilt: Firework Fizz - Vintage Happy 2! I'm huge Lori Holt fan so I had to create a quilt with her newest collection: Vintage Happy 2 designed for Riley Blake Designs. I just love the retro prints and the colors- it definitely does make me HAPPY!

I knew I wanted to use a large block quilt so the Vintage Happy 2 fabrics would standout, which is why I chose my Firework Fizz Quilt Pattern. The blocks are 20" so the hardest part of the Firework Fizz Quilt is only choosing 9 Vintage Happy 2 fabrics!

I love that a secondary pattern appears when you sew together the large blocks - hooray! Firework Fizz is a wonderful beginner friendly quilt pattern. Plus since the blocks are large - it is a quick quilt to make.

If you need a last minute Christmas Gift - you could make this quilt! I know it would be well loved!

66.5" x 66.5"

Supplies: (click on links below)

I absolutely love the Shabby Denim fabric as the background fabric. I think it makes the Vintage Happy 2 prints just POP! Plus the darker, mottled, shabby background will hide spills ;). Can you see the peek of the Bee Basics Gingham backing fabric? - I LOVE it!

The Vintage Happy 2 Daisy Denim was perfect for the binding. The daisies are tiny so it's just too cute. I love being able to find tiny prints for my quilt bindings!

Modern Twist Chimney Sweep Quilt with Flower Market

Today I'm sharing my latest favorite quilt! The gorgeous fabric is Flower Market by Jen Allyson designed for Riley Blake Designs. It was the perfect collection for my Modern Twist Chimney Sweep Quilt

I do love floral prints so I just loved all the gorgeous florals in Flower Market. I especially love the florals on the black fabric - just stunning. The soft pastel fabrics really shine with the dark black and coral pink fabrics.

I just knew this lovely bundle of Flower Market would match perfectly with my new AccuQuilt GO! Chimney Sweep die - yay!!! Just look at all the lovely Chimney Sweep Blocks! I even put my favorite print on top :)

I love using my GO! Chimney Sweep die because there was NO trimming of the block and NO pins when assembling the block - hooray! This really saved me time as I was sewing 20 Chimney Sweep Blocks.
* I did use pins for the Quilt Assembly Directions so my points would match ;)

Cut Time, Quilt More

Are you ready to make your own Modern Twist Chimney Sweep Quilt with Flower Market?!?!?

Modern Twist Chimney Sweep Quilt with Flower Market (56" x 56")

Supplies:

Blossom Basics by Riley Blake Designs has become my "go to" background fabric choice for my quilts. It is available in many colors and adds just a bit of extra tiny blossoms instead of a solid for my quilts!

I was so excited when I was able to pick the perfect matching backing fabric: Lori Holt Bee Basics Coral Basic X. The X pattern matches the quilt front so perfectly! Do you just love it when you find the perfecting backing fabric?!?!?! Plus the coral color looks amazing with the black dot binding!

I absolutely love this quilt! This quilt is "so me"! It's a traditional block with a modern twist - floral fabrics - black/white dot binding - used my new AccuQuilt die for cutting - relaxing to sew the blocks with no pins - block pieces are large enough to show the gorgeous fabric! Seriously one of my favorite quilts!!!!

The brand new Flower Market Collection is now available - just look at the beautiful colors stacked so perfectly! What are you going to make with Flower Market???
